This is the 1794 Cent that I mentioned in the tread that I kinda high jacked. The pictures came out better than I expected they would and represent the coin very well. I did a bit of research and it looks like a head of 1795 with a res-stamped upside down 1 in the date which seems to fit the 69 designation. It's one of my favorite coins. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j137/alde711/1794Cent_zps3b4a51ba.jpg
If the coin is referencing Ex: Edward Nowak as who it used to belong to Could be Edward Nowak who was co-chairman of the Toledo Coin Club back in the 60's
The tag does say Nowak. I just included the tag in the pictures for reference. I am just learning about attributing these early coins beyond the very basics.
S-69 confirmed. It appears to be State I or State II since the die crack through 9 is not evident. This is one of 5 obverses often called head of 95 which I prefer to call ALMOST head of 95 since it has a curl on the lowest lock of hair. The true head of 95 only makes it's appearance with Obverse 39 on S-72 and no curl.
Marshall, I have a copy of Penny Whimsy by Sheldon on the way and maybe a copy of Breen's Encyclopedia of Early US Cents 1793-1814. This is an area of the hobby I really want to learn more about. There are some great early cooper coins to collect. I also have a 1798 and 1803 Cent on the way for me to attribute. Fairly low grade but that's fine by me as a learning tool. Thanks agin for all your help and information.
Just be careful using the Breen Photos for identification. There are some errors. The descriptions are good and I use them in conjunction with the Holmes Sale photos. http://www.icollector.com/The-Pre-Long-Beach-Sale_as14916
