I agree with everyone. I too immediately thought it looked over dipped and my eye isn't even that trained. This is the coin I bid on. It's the same coin as my pictures, but to me not a good representation on how the coin really looks. Thoughts now? The description read... "1942 Walking Liberty Half Dollar, BU+/MS+ blast white, super nice, see photos"
Now I don't put everything on a description obviously especially when people put grades etc but I do rely on quality pictures. I feel I got a little duped on this one.
I would say no to any cartwheel luster Yes 14 days but I pay return shipping and yes on eBay. I am contemplation returning the coin but was wondering if I was overreacting. This would be the first coin I contemplated returning on eBay. My judgement is usually pretty good.
I don't think its overreacting, it was advertised as BU+, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't luster a requirement for a BU+ coin.
Obviously it's your call Fall Guy. It's hard to say if you were "duped" on purpose. It's possible the seller has no idea how to tell the difference between a shiny cleaned coin and a lustrous one, or an AU and an MS coin. Either way, if it didn't live up to your expectations, return it. You are no overreacting at all. Unless you paid melt for it.
Yeah, maybe "duped" is the wrong word. I'm not even mad. Just thought the pictures were a little too different than the coin in hand. I'll mull over it for a couple of days. Thanks for everyone's opinion so far.
Given the surfaces represented in the first images, that coin might not even be graded... it'd come back in a details type of slab, at best.
A lot of coins have been dipped. This one's a real honey. It's too bad her surface is so compromised.
Honesty I would return it....you thought you were buying a nice 1942 half and ended up with smoke and mirrors.
Take the postage loss and return it. I have never been able to get myself to like a coin over time. The issues that bother you now, will always bother you. Use the money towards a coin you will be truly happy with.
Agreed. I have been in similar situations in the past and I kept the coins. Every time I looked at one of the coins I was disappointed in it. Send it back...you will never be happy with it. Spend your money on a piece you will be happy with.
Does this person regularly sell coins? If they do, then their photos were likely taken in a way to make the coin appear better than it really is. Imaging coins in a way that will allow potential buyers to get a good idea of its in-hand appearance is not that difficult, so when you see photos like this from a coin seller, you might as well just walk away. The coin looks to have at least once been a high Ch AU example, but is now ready for the pot. Unless you paid close to melt (which I doubt), return it.
