OK - part of the reason for posting this is just to share the lovely pickup from a local auction today. But also I would like a little advice, as I assume many more of these sell on your side of the pond: In Krause, the 1793 date is given appreciably higher prices than other dates around then - is this reflected in actual sales? What value would be fair to ask for this one? I have a collector friend who is interested, and will largely take my advice. I can't base it simply on its cost as it was only a small part of a large lot of coins bought at auction. Thanks for any thoughts you can contribute.
^Agree, in VF its priced at $90 on NGC price guide but I dunno what to grade yours. They are scarcer then the other denominations.
This four reales is a scarce denomination for Mexico and is normally found in bad condition. Below is a link to NGC price guide. Not a cheap coin. You have a nice specimen. From photos I have seen, one of the best. http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/WorldCoinPrices.aspx?category=1546&worldcoinid=7309
Paddy I say between F & VF There 4 reales are rare as they minted more 8's than any any other smaller denominations, Nice o/M mint mark =Mexico the date is readable and plenty of detail left on the coin. I think in your neck of the woods where these are not found as they are here in the states the value $90 to 100 be a fair price and what that equates in Euro or Pounds. Nice pick up Paddy :thumb:
Attached is a HA 1795 specimen sold as XF for 253 US in 2007 as ref. The 90-100 US price sounds good.
