I don't know what caused this extra "blob" of metal above Jefferson's head. The die appears to be in a pretty late stage. Could this be what caused it? Is the problem with the word "Trust" due to die attrition? Any help is greatly appreciated.

If it is a late die state, I would bet that it is a case of die deterioration. However, I am not a nickel expert.
    Keep up the hunt!

1989-P and is there anything in particular you are looking for on the reverse? I can get a close up where you need it.

With 898.812,000 1989 P coins minted I think it's die deterioration. Remember the Philadelphia is a work horse mint ...meaning Philly puts out more coins than the other mints. I have lots of errors Jefferson Nickels from the 1989 strikes at philly. They struck the dies at Philly just about till they exploded.... Very cool specimen to hold on to. Value maybe $10 to the right buyer.

That's pretty much what I thought. I couldn't think of anything else that would cause this. I am keeping at least one coin of each "error" I find. I haven't put back a deteriorated die specimen yet, but this one is pretty cool. I'll keep it until a cooler one comes along. Thanks to all!
