I am surprised you haven't leaped on such a coin. If I had a coin from King Nathan I I would buy it in a heart beat. Being John, you def. need a John I coin.
Or John VIII. This is the very last Byzantine coin you can own unless you wish to go WELL into five figures for one of the very few Constantine XI coins. I like John VIII, and pick them up when I can reasonably.
Byzantine Silver in Hand.... Ah the coin arrived today and promptly took my own measurements, of this coin. They are as follows 21.6 mm x 2.62 g. Toned very nicely with alot more facial detail than I expected...I tried to capture with this upclose photo.
Hello. I did not want to come in. The fact is that the only Byzantine coin I own proves itself to be oddly-shaped, average poor and partially damaged. I wish someone could identify the Emperor at least. Thanks.. Charles
Hello. I did not want to intervene in this thread. The fact is that the only Byzantine coin I own is average poor, oddly-shaped and harshly cleaned. I wish someone could assist me identifying the name of the Byzantine Emperor , at least. Thanks.. Charles
I'm not going to be much help on this coin7C. However, I have three Byzantine coins with a large M on the reverse. One is Anastasius, one Justinian I and the last Justin II. Here are the images. See if any of these match what you have in hand: 1. Anastasius 2. Justinian
Pretty much has to be Anastasius, Justin, or Justinian. They were the only three I know of that made that style obverse. Based on the condition that is about the best I can do. If it helps, I would lean towards Anastatius.
more new photos of John I Interesting coins all! I am glad we got to see some other types. I took my own photos of my coin and was quite pleased with the out come. I find this coin very photogenic...
Thanks a lot. On the right side of obverse, I can read SIVSSIAN. It must refer to Emperor Anastasius. On exergue of reverse, I can read CON . On the center, within the large letter M , there is a C . Also a star on right side of M . The coin is of coin- alignment. The main striking thing is the shape where it is angular convex on the upper side of obverse. Is this familiar with Byzantine coins?
