Looks like it contacted some kind of corrosive to me.

it's quite the odd pattern, and my cameraphone doesn't really do it justice. i can almost get my fingernail under the plating at 4 o'clock right next to the peach. does that mean it's coming up, or that corrosion (as you mentioned c.h.) has worked in there and done some damage?

From the irregular outline, I would think that it could be missing a partial clad layer. Either that or the peach juice has turned bad.

thank you cpm, i got my terms mixed up. i wasn't trying to imply the planchet was defective, but just the reverse clad layer.

It looks like an authentic, albeit unusual example of incomplete cladding.

That's okay! I knew what you meant. Heck, sometimes people post questions and you can't even tell if they are from this planet.

i see a lot of odd-looking coins at my job, and 99% of the time they're pmd. i would like to think i'm getting better at spotting the genuine errors, but these clad layer oddities still throw me. i suppose i'll add this one to the pile of "potential errors". one of these days i'll have to send them all to a pro to find out for sure.

    thanks everyone!

Wacky you already got information from a pro. Mike Diamond said it looks like an incomplete cladding layer.

I think he was referring to the post immediately before his, but he won't get a reply because xGAJx is no longer here. It doesn't matter because the comment was meaningless anyway.

Where is Xgajx? I mean, obviously I have an idea but is there somewhere that what happened is documented? IE how did you know he isn't here?

I looked in the member list and his username is gone.

Most of us know he has a smart mouth, but he shouldn't have used it with Doug. I don't even think he knew who Doug is.

No he didn't. Maybe I should have been more explicit in my warnings.

Maybe this is the best way for him to learn.

FWIW......I sent him a PM a couple of weeks ago and very politely suggested that he back off giving grading and value estimates on coins because he was way off. I never got a reply, and he never once responded to any of my comments in other threads after that. Maybe he "blocked" me. I don't know. So, I can only assume that he thinks he is smarter than the rest of us.

Yeah he does. He really doesn't belong here. If he really only is 11 though, I suppose there's a chance he just needed an eye opener and then he'd straighten up. From his continuing attitude I didn't really see that happening.

He probably is by far the smartest kid in his school, yada yada, and is conditioned to everyone else around him being dumb and uninformed. Not realizing of course that isn't always the case.

I guess we'll see if he comes back at some point.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you also 11? What happened to you? 36_11_6.gif
