This looks right to me. In fact, I think this coin "rocks" as Jerry might say. Great detail remaining. Congratulations John.

I've shown mine before, but will gladly show it again. It's from a slightly different era, 350-300 BC. The weight and size on mine is 16.9g, 22mm.

Great coin. I know more than likely, I won't ever own one. Too expensive.

Of course you could send the coin to David Sear and see what he says about it. For a coin like that, I definitely would.

Mother of all ancient coins is right, that one is awesome. Its also in much better condition than the one I have of the same era. Yours is fabulous, no counter marks or test cuts. A very nice state of preservation with full weight to boot. I don't have any ancient tetradrachms over the 17g mark. Now 17+ grams on a 24 mm flan, thats a wicked chunky fat boy. The coin is also great in every way. Well done, John, you never cease to amaze me. Kudos- I wish I had fruit for you.:thumb:

BTW - Dang this coin is Phat!

Here's mine (Athenian democracy/confederation, classical period tetradrachm 449-413 BC). Actually I owned one many years ago & sold it. Then last year I purchased a new one in slightly better condition. The auction catalog listed it as earlier but I see nothing indicating it is other than the usual classical issue.

Actually what I can kick myself about is that 20 years ago, at a CNG auction [ca. 1991] I had the opportunity to buy an Athenian dekadrachm at a fairly reasonable price. Who know that some coins would turn so hot while others would not?

Nice owl. I had to look it over closely since they always make me nervous when its an O and not a theta, (look at Bing's coin, see the mark in the center of the "O"). A lot of counterfeits were made with an O instead of a theta, so I always look at that. However, I also believe yours is legit.

I don't know ancients from a rock, but that is a beautiful coin. It appears to excite other ancient collectors, so I assume it's a big deal. Congrats!

I have no doubts that it is genuine. It is fully Classical and, save a little disturbance around the eye, a very nice coin.

I have seen this particular coin with all the chops & I can tell you it looks FANTASTIC in hand. IMO it is one of those rare coins that is both attractive and dripping with history.

Eng's coin is wonderfully centered and high grade. :hail: I suspect that everyone at CT is envious of Eng.

    Here is mine.
