There will be one, but it will be the uncirculated half dollar, uncirculated silver dollar, and a medal instead of the gold coin.
I've been watching this series and am interested in purchasing either the proof or uncirculated dollar and half dollar. However, what has me interested in these coins is not the coins themselves but the reasoning that the Navy's five star holders were not included anywhere in this coin offering. Don't forget that they were King, Halsey, Nimitz and Leahy. Another interesting tidbit is that MacArthur and Eisenhower didn't like each other. Eisenhower served under MacArthur as did Marshall. Only MacArthur gave Eisenhower an annual fitness review that was less than complementary that said the Ike really wasn't fit to command. I've always wondered how MacArthur felt when Ike because president of the U.S. for a job that Doug felt was rightfully (or wrongly) was his. Anyway, getting back onto topic, of the two finishes (Proof or Uncirculated) which would be the one to get if you were going to buy just one type.
I bought a set last Thursday, first day and it's getting shipped out on 4/6. I am surprised that there's not more collectors excited about it. All the generals were very brave men who stood tall against the enemy and did a great service for the US of A. IMO, that should have been enough to get at least a few hundred collectors excited but that's not what's happening. The MacArthur gold coin is the only one I really wanted, but I decided to get the set because there are only 10,000 sets being minted. I really wish they would have issued a silver MacArthur so I could have bought for less but the US Mint seems to work against us at times, again jmho. I guess not too many collectors know about MacArthur and the history therein, or Marshall or even Eisenhower. Hopefully one of the coins becomes one big sleeper. BTW, even the clads are a good buy! http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ctId=16824&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=10141
I think you overestimate the public's like of muscle for criminal gangs. Let me know when they create a Smedley Butler gold, I'll buy several.
what a relief to know someone ordered it i no longer care for whats on the coins just as long as we have only 2 sets a year and hopefully there is no gold in either of them. Talk about being a slave to the hobby. the old comems stopped in 1964 i wonder when these new ones will stop. you are right the clads are so overpriced they wont sell and there might be an opportunity to make off with the booty in the future
Little jealous there Rassi, mine still haven't arrived and I ordered day of release and they only just shipped this morning.
Mine are caught somewhere between 'Edison' and home tree. Something akin to Arthur's situation.....
I recieved my half yesterday and have no idea why I ordered it. The GS is for my grand daughter No 3 coin set for me
OK......got mine. I must say that the proofs are better (MHO) than the uncirculated's and I'm a tad miffed at the quality of the Denver half, but I'll keep it anyway. Besides, I may be ordering a couple more latter this year.
I received the direct mail piece from the mint, and I'm still kind of on the fence. They all look attractive for the subject matter, but the subject matter doesn't interest me as much as the early commems.
