VERY rare and you'll next to never see one offered for sale. This is a double struck Buff housed in a pcgs holder with the assigned grade of xf-45 but looks a bit better than the grade assigned. Not very many, all I can account for is 3 known. One is own by a New York investors firm. This one is mine and the only one graded by pcgs. Thanks for looking....DEX Slab # is E-11111
And I have decided! Not a rare date or grade (NGC MS65), but when I saw this toning I just had to have it! Immediately fell in love with the color. Managed to talk the seller down a good amount too. My first really nice Buffalo! These are sellers pics cropped down (scratches on the holder). I cannot wait to see this in hand
The whole Heard but...acid washed A few weeks ago someone posted a thread on using acid or nic'a date to restore dates on Buffalo nickels. Here is the results ...I will try later to post some closer pictures of Key coins in this set to show btter the effects of the acid on the coin. One must ask them selves is it better to have a no date coin with some orginal finish or a mess like this......This is a complete set made up from no date buffalos except the later years mid to late 30's. Look at the coins closely and see how pitted they are from the acid they have a gritty feeling in hand no luster and the orginal surface is gone. I put this set together as a project to show a coin club the effects of acid on nickels.
Jim Halperin wrote in one of his books that the Satin Finish, which is a combination of the Matte and Mirror Finishes is regarded as the most beautiful of all Proof Finishes. I never knew if this was a credible statement until the day I received this coin. Dont get me wrong I LOVE my 1937 Brilliant Mirror Proof, but this coin here the, 36 Satin Proof is the most beautiful coin I own and I can look at it all day long : )
