Bummer about the package. It was just the dime though.
That gives me hope about the nickels. I have a feeling all would grade at NGC and most with *'s. I also know these were all toned in an album. But as we both know, its about market acceptability. They are my favorite nickels from my hoard for sure.

PS.. I have another dime from the same album as the stolen one. Its even better. Let's discuss :)

That is true gonzo. You will see some that have that appearance, but this is due to the toning pattern And not the planchet.

I bought an old Whimtan oosevelt dime album full of toners.

Here a few with the nice and much more rare, pinks/greens.

Utterly spectacular. I think they would probably grade, but who cares? Enjoy them as they are.

Newest acquisition: Ordinary common date, and normal hits and dings for a 63, but I really like the tone.

I'm unsure these would grade, personnally I think they are AT'ed in a book, but would love to have them as I think they are beautiful.

Here is a different one. Also, note the strong ghosting of Abe.

This is with out question the most magnificent Buffalo nickel I have ever seen and is the nicest Buff in my collection. Not the most expensive, just the most eye appealing Buff I have ever laid my eyes on. I really paid up for this one and it took me 3 months to decide to purchase it. It resides in an old NGC holder and that's where it'll stay as long as I own this piece. It does not matter to me what holder it's in nor the grade assigned it's the coin and nothing else matters at all. Thanks for looking...DEX

OK, I stopped being lazy and looked it up. The outside coating is 100% (more or less) copper. So, no more woodies I guess.

A beautiful set of Jefferson nickels (1938-1994) in an old Whitman from member Kevin (cpb614).
Circulated up until 1956, but then......
    BAM!!!
Uncirculated from 1956 and up, all proof issues from 1956-1993, with 90% of them toned.
    Like so.

TY! But the closest descriptor I can use for the main color in hand would be slate.
