The Very Belated 500[SUP]th[/SUP] Post Contest

Hi Coin Talkers! My name is Michael and I am a coin collector. Many of you might not know me as I have only recently started to post more than I lurk. I have won some pretty awesome prizes from some very generous members through CT Contests. In addition to this, I have gained something I prize more than the coins and that is knowledge. I know I don’t know much compared to many members on this site. But what I do know is that my knowledge of coins has been increased many times over due to the great resource that is Coin Talk. Because of this, more than anything, I wanted to try and give back to this online community that has helped me so much in my development as a collector. As you can see by the title, this contest was supposed to happen quite a while ago. It has taken me some time to get everything sorted out, the prizes selected, the details hashed out, etc. For the delay in this, I am sorry; but enough of that.

    Contest Info
The contest is simple. It is basically a US coin quiz that covers US coin history, the US Mint, coin grading, problem coins, varieties and some historically significant coins. The details/rules/requirements are outlined below:

-100 post minimum to enter, US mailing addresses only.
-Contest submissions are due by April 1, 2013 at 9PM ET.
-Submit your answers via PM and try to be concise. I will post the answers and winners within a day or two.
-Three (3) “main” prizes will be awarded to the top 3 scores (ties broken with tie-breaker questions)
-Then, three (3) “draw” prizes awarded by random drawing, converting points to entries (half points rounded up)
-Draw prize entries will be sorted alphabetically by screen name and assigned a number based on order in list.
-Three unique numbers will be generated via random.org and matched to the entry number.
-First winner of drawing will select a prize first, followed by the second, then third.
-The three winners of the Quiz Prizes are excluded from the random drawing.
-Only one random draw prize per person. If necessary, additional numbers will be generated to provide for this.

    “Main” Prizes
1st place: 6-Coin Early 20[SUP]th[/SUP] Century Type Set in Whitman Holder (Cent-Dollar, varying grades, G-VF+)
2nd place: 1922 Peace Dollar in 2x2 (AU, Chatty)
3rd place: 1996-W Roosevelt Dime Uncirculated in 2x2

    “Draw” Prizes (Winner’s choice)
-1986-S Statue of Liberty Clad Half Dollar Gem Proof in Generic Slab
    -1973 P+D Eisenhower Dollars Uncirculated in 2x2s
-1982 7-coin variety pack in cello (uncirculated, but off quality) and 3 IHC, 1 V Nickel (circulated in 2x2s)

Any questions can be asked either in thread or via PM. I’ll try to log in a couple of times a day to answer any questions. Just remember, don’t post your answers in the thread. Good luck to all!!

Yea, I figured I'd make my first contest worth the effort ... pretty decent prizes IMO :hail: ... only have two entries so far and am just starting to grade theirs ... maybe I'll extend the end date if not enough people enter, or If i keep it the same those entered are guaranteed a win if no more enter ... lol

This looks awesome, thanks Miedbe! This will be a welcome distraction from my Quantum test I should be studying for...

I'm glad you like it, put a fair amount of work into it. Good luck with the quantum test, dont let those strange, charms, bosons and gluons keep you down ... unless it's the weak nuclear force doing so ... bad joke.

I just want to remind everyone that if you have a question about the quiz in general, or about a question in particular, ask it BEFORE you submit your answers. If your question might hint at an answer and you don't want to help the public, sumbit your question via PM. Also, if you list multiple answers/options for a question, I will take the first one listed as your answer. And finally, you don't answer a question with a question!

I'm going to extend the entry deadline to April 3rd at 9pm because I myself am wrapped up in March Madness and will have Easter obligations. So sorry to the 7 people that have entered already, you were almost virtually guaranteed a prize.

edit: sorry meant Wednesday night, can't count apparently... so 2 extra days!

    Great contest!
Only worry is that it ends on April Fools day...is this a trick ;)

  15. miedbe7

    miedbe7 Wayward Collector

Nope, not a trick!!! I just changed the end day to add 2 extra days for those that have Easter obligations or are watching the NCAA tournament over the weekend. I hope this is not a problem for anyone. For some reason my ability to change my original post has been taken away, like I'm gonna do something shady. So I hope people see that there are 2 extra days. The new deadline is WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3, 2013 @ 9PM.

Yep, as it stands I have received (and graded) entries from Wiggam007, Kbabyjohnson01, xGAJx (but I think he's banned??), aubade21, DaveyJones, Treashunt, Jay4202472000 and ebunny ... there is nothing to glean from the order, it's the order that I received them in. :p
