Just got this, been looking for one with LXXII for a whole, come to find that I missed this one at the local shop for a few years now D N CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG, diademed, draped & cuirassed bust right, A behind/ FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO soldier spearing falling enemy horseman, hair straight up, reaching backwards, LXXII to left, S between AQS in ex. RIC Aquileia 193
From Forvm: "The reverse mark LXXII refers to the a standard of 72 coins to the pound. The gold solidus and silver light miliarense were both also struck at this c. 4.5 gram standard."
Funny I just got the Rome this week. I am a bit disapointed in it though, its very rough and barely able to ID. I need AN / AQ / TR / AL / AM to complete my set.
That's right - I remember reading it somewhere. Just can't keep track of all the reforms. I've got a falling horseman on the way, should be here tomorrow, but it's Constantius Gallus. Nicest FH in my collection, but it's an AE2, and that design always looks better on a larger coin...
Great lookin' coins, fellas ... Randy-G => I really like the sandy patina on your first coin (great eye-appeal)
Thanks all John, I have seen some pretty nice little ones, Antioch comes to mind mostly. but yeah, the larger ones still are nicer.
Ty, I know the Carausius isnt that great, but any better than that and I probably wouldnt havent gotten it.
Hey I got rid of a real nice trajan for a lesser grade one cause I liked the portrait more, nothing wrong with lower grade stuff. I still have no regrets.
No need to make a new topic I guess Here's coin 3 of 4 nothing special. Victorinus AE Antoninianus. Southern Mint. IMP C VICTORINVS P F AVG, radiate, draped & cuirassed bust right / SALVS AVG, Salus standing left, feeding serpent rising from altar. RIC 71, Cohen 118, Sear 11181. RIC 71
