Quick question. I have heard a lot about Chinese counterfeits and fake US coins. How would I spot a fake?Does mine look like a counterfeit? 010.jpg 011.jpg

I don't see anything jumping out that would make me think it's fake. it's also a very common date, which makes it less likely that someone would fake it. In that condition it's nothing special and worth a buck or two over melt in my opinion.

Doesn't look like a fake, just worn/circulated. Weigh it to be sure. Real ones are 6.25 grams.

Looks like a legit 1914 in F12 or F15 to me.

Less likely, but they are out there, $1.80 with free shipping.

It's just pathetic that we have to double check even common coins. What have we come to?

It looks fine to me , the color and wear patterns are correct , the Chinese will fake any date but their artificial wear and color are usually way off . Have you weighed it . It should weigh 6.25 grams .

Thank you all for your help. You guys are quite knowledgeable! I am looking into getting some less common/scarce coins.

The 1914 quarter looks good to me.

Taxidermist, Chinese counterfeit posted is a 1914 half dollar which is not a common date coin in high grade.

What would be a fair retail price for this quarter? Buck or 2 over melt would be $6.18 to 7.18. Seems kind of low to me. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

I stand corrected and agree. I think it is a VG10
VG8 Very Good: Minimum of three letters in LIBERTY readable.
F12 Fine: LIBERTY completely readable but not sharp.
