I found a Bust Half Dollar that is an R5 but it probably grades at AG and has slight damage. I usually never buy damaged coins but it is very cheap and I'm not sure I want to pass up an R5 coin. What is your opinion?

Are you certain it's an R5?

Sorry didnt get a chance to see this. I pretty sure, the main things are the square chin and die crack from the left wing to olive leafs.

I can't attribute it, but the coin has just nice honest wear, I'd buy if the price were near enough to melt or maybe for $20 if it is possibly R5. Looks natural to me.

Since I can't make out the T-I relationship, I'm not confident enough to say it's the O.122. Yes, other attributes of that die marriage are present, but it's so worn I just can't confirm it.

Chances are high that is the variety, but it'd mean having to compare it to every other marriage for the date to make sure it didn't resemble any others. It's even more difficult when key diagnostics have been worn away.

That coin certainly earned it's keep , nice honest wear . I like it , but sure wouldn't want to attribute it .

I like it also and do not think I can attribute it form the pictures.

Alright, thanks for all of the advice. Any ideas on how I should procede. Anacas? Also what do you think is the value?

Well, I cannot attrib it either, but I can tell you what it is not and I am fairly certain it is not an O-122. The orientation of star 7 is wrong, on a 122. It should be pointing down towards the top of the curl more. In addition, the stars on the left are just too flat for a 122 even in its very worn state.

EDIT: I have to take back what I said. I took another look at the star and compared it to the pic on O-121 which has the same OBV as 122 and the star looks close so I would have to say that O-122 is possible.

    I can't ID w/o the reverse T-I relationship.

I got the coin in today and could probably take a close up with my digital microscope if anyone thinks they would help.
And thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread.

Not sure it will help unless you can catch the I-T relationship on the reverse. Maybe you can use this auction on heritage. You can see some of the straight line defects from eagles head towards left wing and another from left wing to olive leaves.

The die defects do not seem to be present, does this mean it is not a o122 or could they be worn off?

Possibly in that condition they could be worn smooth. At times when I glance at it I can almost see the one from the eagles neck to the left wing, but when I look really hard I lose it. I just cannot see enough to tell.
