Hey guys, just wondering your thoughts on the authenticity of my 1874 CC trade dollar. It is spot on at 27 grams and is made of silver. It looks like a genuine piece to me, just heavily cleaned/polished and maybe a weak strike.

    Thanks!

What is the precision of your scale? I think it looks real, but 27 grams is lighter than it should be. Does your scale just read whole grams, to .1 grams or .01 grams?

It weighs between 27.1 and 27.2 grams, on a more accurate scale.

Position of mint mark and eagle on reverse doesn't look right to me--could be the photo, but proportions look off IMHO. Trade dollars not slabbed are very suspect--it is so often counterfeited.

Looks real, but obviously scrubbed. And evidently to the point where the mintmark suffered damage.

Die cracks above the legend are also a good indicator that the coin is authentic. Not to say die cracks always guarantee a coin is authentic, but the ones your coin exhibits are consistent with known die varieties for the date.

Regardless of real or fake that thing looks like it went through a steel brush cleaning. Both sides fields loaded with scratches like they used a brush attachment for a drill or something.
