    Well, let's see... my ancients collection numbers just over 100 coins but I still consider myself pretty much a beginner. On my bookshelves, I have the first ERIC book, David Vagi's two-volume Coinage and History of the Roman Empire, and a catalog of early Japanese coins by David Hartill. I also have a few auction catalogs someone on Vcoins was nice enough to include with an order.

    I have borrowed several volumes of the RIC via inter-library loan from the University of Minnesota. I'm always looking for used stuff on Abebooks.

    I use the Web more often than not for coin attribution and information. Wildwinds is probably my favorite site.

    I'm looking forward to seeing some of those 100 coins in your collection jj.

    He meant the Nabatean volume, not the more commonly found AJC or even Samarian coins reference.

    Myself, depends on the coin right? Hendin or Sng Ana for jewish, gobl for hunnic, Sellwood parthian, gobl sassanid, Copenhagen, von aulock, or bmc for greek, etc. I just got this weekend the complete DO byzantine seal set, to go with my DO set for byzantines.

    You know, there might be a member on ct in the twin cities that has a "few" more ancient coin books than most universities that you could use.

    Now you just need to get Zlacos' book on seals and you'll be set. :D

    Since i don't own a seal yet, i am good. :) The set was going cheap at Fanning and it looks nice with th DO set. I also got one of 250 "a private collection of paleologian coins" and a hahn volume. So all i got were byzantine references.

    Its a four volume set. Three is coins, four is countermarks, in case you ever get them offered separately.

    Good luck finding a set. Its scarcer than meshorer nabatean. I got Joel Malter's set.

    John Anthony was looking for a Nabatean coins by Meshorer. It was published in Qedem in 1975. I would sell him mine but it took me 5-6 years to find mine for sale.

    No, that volume of Qedem only contains the title "Nabatean Coins". Its a thin grey hardcover.

    Actually, I never thought about it. Does SNG ANS 6 also cover Nabatean? That volume can be found cheaply at times. I could look tonight if no one else knows.

    Not sure abt SNG 6. I thought it had the Naba's as well... I had mine for ... 4$ + shipping (ordered it last friday) -original priced at 125$...never used copy-

    Yeah, the clearanced these out about 8 years ago when ANS moved to David Brown bookseller. All ANS SNG's from 6-9 were on sale, as well as Dewing, Zecca mint, etc. I bought about $1000 worth of brand new books for about $150. The SNG 6 seems to have the most copies extra. Last I saw, David Brown still had them on clearance for like $10. Its actually a good book, though the oversized format makes it harder to use and store, (but this is true of many SNGs).

    It's Qedem 3. If anyone's got a copy they can part with, I promise you a healthy profit. :)

    [h=3]QEDEM 3 (1975)[/h]YA`AKOV MESHORER: Nabataean Coins

    During the Hellenistic period, an inter-tribal group of Arabian-Aramean elements consolidated themselves under the name of Nabatu and made the transition from nomadic to sedentary life. The vigorous and independent culture that emerged reached its zenith in the 1st century BCE, and it is at this time that the Nabateans began to mint their own distinctive coins. Nabatean numismatic history, studied here in detail according to reigning monarchs, reflects the vicissitudes of the kingdom and its abrupt termination in 106 CE, when the Romans annexed the Nabatean kingdom to the empire as Provincia Arabia.
