Well after a year of starting this set of her I can happily say she is finally complete. My goal was to just assemble all the reverse types. I had no desire to build it via RIC order since some look exactly the same or have AVG instead of AVGVSTA on the obverse. The last coin to finish this was is the popular "clasped hands" variety. Ive skipped out on examples well over three figures luckily this was priced well below that. Now I can focus on Lucilla whom I still need 3 reverse types, 4 if I wanna spend a lifetime or get huge luck for the very rare Laetitia reverse. I have included a "Virtual Tray" featuring all the crispina coins in my set. Crispina (178 - 182 A.D.) AR Denarius O: CRISPINA AVG, draped bust right. R: CONCORDIA, clasped hands. 2.7g 18mm RIC 279 (Commodus); BMCRE 29 (Commodus); RSC 9
Congratulations. It's always rewarding to complete something you set out to do. They all look wonderful, with great detail. I need to get a Denarius of her. All I have is a very worn As
Thanks, I might add an AE or two of some sort but I have no desire to build a complete set of those, lol. I still wanna complete Lucilla & 12 caesars.
Good luck with those 12 Caesars. I'll be lucky if I get even half of them. lol I might be getting a low grade Lucilla As next month. We shall see.
Thanks Eng! I need the big boys still, Otho, Vitellius & Caligula. But I would be OK with AE Caligula. I am not building the set in all silver. I dont have that kind of $ to play with, lol.
A very nice set you have put together there - Congratulations, that takes much dedication. Which is the one you had the most trouble finding?
The toughest was the JUNO reverse cause there is a really good fake of that type and I ended up with one. Thankfully I did get a rebate and found a real one not long after that.
I'm so glad I haven't purchased a fake yet. Knock on wood. Yes, it can happen for real. I bet it totally sucks getting a fake.
Thanks Chris Your coin looks fine to me. Its got flow lines, the common fake has the N in Juno a tad off center, your peacock head is missing where the fake its full. Your crispina has a sad droopy eyes like my new clasped hands denarius. Plus yours has toning and the fake is made of Nickel. Thats what triggered my fake was the feel and thud on the table.
Congrats Mat! Completing a collection of anything ancient is awesome in itself. Kudos on your accomplishment.
