I bought this today. Evidently Bowersock is very well-reviewed for a comprehensive ancient history of this region... A google books abstract... P.S. I bought it as a used textbook for only $12 including shipping. The guy who was selling it said, "This was a college textbook of mine and it has highlights, but I'm smart, so the highlights are important!" lol
Great book. In our dark little corner of this hobby textbooks are great resources. I got my copy of Sogdian Traders as a used textbook from Yale book store.
What are they worth, is it a 64 or a 65 or a 64+, how does PCGS tally their GPA, how would PCGS grade this as opposed to NGC, why does the mint charge so much, yadda yadda yadda. Turns out all that just wasn't my cup of tea, but I suppose you've got to try on the suit before you decide to buy it.
That's another great find, JA. I think I'll keep my eye open for that book as well. The middle east is a big part of the history of the Roman Empire, even though it is certainly not all of it. As far as prices go, I don't really care too much about what they are worth as far as money as concerned, even though I know exactly what I spent in the entire time I've been collecting ancient coins. I've spent around $1200 for coins alone. Add another approximate $130 minimum for stuff I needed for the hobby. While I have kept track as part of being organized, it's not a big concern to me. And when I'm shopping, I look for decent deals, prices are important. That is about the extent of it.
