not sure what happened to this nickel, appears to be during the minting process and not after. but i thought it looked pretty good with the date still there. any opinions ?
i brought it to my LCS and the gentlemen seemed convinced that it was minting damage, but its different in your hands, theres a coin show soon, i might have some people look at it for me.
It just may be as an ejector damage/ coin counter damage, but from your images to my old eyes it looks PMD
I am still learning a lot...from books, websites, and this forum. With that being said....I have a question: With the reverse lining up with the obverse (UNUM is weakened)...could this be considered a die break/cud?
thats what the guy at the coin shop said, because the reverse damage is lined up, shows it is more mint damage then PMD but like i said, its different in your hand.
a cud is a flow/ bead of medal that comes from the rim in wards. so it's extra medal not a loss of medal.And again in hand you get a different perspective than from an photo
