Not sure if a CT scan would help make a diagnosis, though an EEG might reveal brain abnormalities that lead to such a decision.

I "liked" this post because in my experience many people develop physical and mental health issues in their late 50's through 70's. folks older than that are more apt to expect these issues, and they come as less of a shock than they do to those in that 50-70 age range.

Not trying to be insulting when I say it, but I deal with people having these issues daily. Most people with dementia, especially those in its earliest stages, ARE very sharp about many areas of conversation. To them, nothing is wrong with them. It's all these other crazy idiots imposing limits and interfering in their life that have the problem.

One in particular I deal with has a very quick wit. She can talk you into a corner and make you feel stupid, all while roaming around lost, in search of her easy-to-locate room that she seems to lose multiple times per day.

Again, I don't mean to imply that OP's friend is afflicted in this way, but just putting a little out there regarding serious memory loss in whatever form it may come.

So am I. I think we will hear more this weekend.

I know threads here can go off topic, but pages of pseudo-neurological diagnoses? WTF does that have to do with anything?

I will wait until we here news on the case.

Exactly what I was thinking. Why would you buy 9 rolls of halves that are worth their weight in silver without knowing what you are buying? No scam there just someone being naive. No one should be dishing out 8 large without knowing what they are buying no matter what the good is.

I'm starting to doubt the validation of this story. I am not saying the OP is providing false info, I just don't believe the lady herself.

Think of this, before you buy a new car, wouldn't you research it 1st? Look up complaints, recalls, reviews, etc.

You wouldn't just walk out onto the dealer lot, point and say "that one looks cool, I will take it!".

You mentioned this woman is sharp, and unless I read wrong, does not have any kind of dementia.

So ask yourself this, wouldn't YOU do some homework before plunking down $8,000 on silver?

Being that the OP knows about coins, wouldn't the old lady call and ask him before hand?

Unless you know your about to die, and have a boatload of money, you don't **** away $8,000 with no research beforehand.

Now, I don't believe in people taking advantage of the elderly, when they lack the competency to make decisions for themselves.

However, being that this person was mentally fit, REGARDLESS of age, she should of had the scruples not to do this.

I know people, who are in their 80s, and know quite a bit about coins, are in good mental standing, and are wise enough to do their "homework", before making a large purchase.

That being said, I cannot find blame with the dealer for selling her these coins.

If you don't like the price, don't buy it. The dealer did not force into buying them, he did not twist her arm.

She made this purchase with her own mental judgement.

She was in an entirely sound state of mentality when she made the purchase, if all the info here is correct.

You just don't "care" about the elderly, do you Tim? ;)

But seriously. People do wierd things. Some people do walk onto car lots and buy a car on impulse. If nobody ever did that, then salesmen wouldn't pressure you into doing it. They've been able to do it before and it's easy money for them.

Another odd thing people do is not listen to advice. For example, people using the word "of" instead of "have" in their sentences:

"...she should of had the scruples not to do this."

    versus

"...she should have had the scruples not to do this."

But some people don't heed sound advice and choose instead to do their own thing.

The only reason to post something like this is just to cause arguements. Believe what you want, but wait to hear the end of the story.

Please forgive me for being so forgetful in my old age (65) but aren't you the same person who bought a used car without getting the title signed over to you?
