Anyone got a link to the auction? I'm curious to have a look.

NOT ALL BUYER WINS. 21 days Past, No matter what Buyer say But if the SELLER challenged it. Item described as what you see in the PICTURE! KEEP the MONEY! Do not worry about NEGATIVE FEEDBACK after a Year that NEGATIVE FEEDBACK will dissappear...ONE NEGATIVE will not hurt you at all..Be honest is Not your Fault. Picture was very Clear than words...

UPDATE: So I get another message from the buyer stating he never actually sent it to PCGS but a dealer advised him not to bother because it was cleaned. So he lied to me in the first email. I have that on record in eBay messages.

Yeah, but still the buyer can state a dealer in person told him it was cleaned. From the photos its clearly cleaned. No, you did not state it WASN'T cleaned, yet did not disclose it was.

I am not saying its RIGHT, but I still say the buyer MIGHT have enough of a case that Ebay would just take the money out of your Paypal account. Then you are really hosed since you have no money or coin. :(

I just don't know how much this new information helps. Maybe a little, but not enough to change it in my eyes sir. Again it sucks, I know.

    Thanks for the link.

Now that I see what the listing looks like I would not offer a refund outside of the window you gave. It's a straightforward auction with clear, large pictures. It is up to a buyer to determine value which he did. You did not misrepresent the coin in any way.

I take a gamble on plenty of coins on ebay and never buy without a return policy. But once I get the coin in hand I know I have to decide if it's acceptable. I have bought a coin before which I believed was a fake when I received it. I contacted the seller and gave him an option. I would send it out to someone I trust and if it came back real I would keep it, but if it came back fake I would return it (outside his window), or I would just return it straight away. We worked it out beforehand, which is what this seller should have done if he was concerned about it being cleaned.

You are not responsible when a buyer purchases a coin at auction for too much money, it's an auction and it's their responsibility to set a price.

No way would I even think of giving him a refund now, partial or whole. If he wants to practice buying TPG gradable coins, then he should be doing it on cheaper coins. He doesn't get do-overs. He should have showed the pictures to the coin dealer first before bidding. And now he's a liar on top of it. I wouldn't care about the negative feedback anymore. Liars don't get special treatment.

I wouldn't put "high grade" in the title if it is cleaned and ungradable.

Just for thought.... If he'd bought another cbh from me for $400 and it came back MS-62, do you think he'd send me a check for $600 and say, "Thanks! Now we're all square!"? :D

    definer definitely....! LOL

I was leaning on the side of not giving a refund at all until I saw the ad with "High grade" in the title. I think we would all have to agree that "grade" has a different connotation in the coin world than it does elsewhere. I hope for the OP sake, the buyer accepts the $125 offer but I think a full refund is warranted.

I agree that stating it was high grade with normal circulation marks to me is a bit misleading. We all know pictures can be good or bad and sometimes make coins look better or look worse. However, you were sure to say high grade with circulation marks but never mentioned it was cleaned.

Now the flip side is you had an auction and people can decide for themselves whether they want to bid

  13. I am no CBH expert but that one is obviously cleaned from the listing pics.

CBH: IMO, I would just refund the money. TC

The coin is past the official return policy of 14 days. If the buyer didn't recognize the problem and return the coin within that window, there's no way I'd refund his money.

This happens to sellers a lot. Buyer gets the coin, buyer submits the coin to a TPG, the grade is not as high as they thought so they demand a refund. Using a TPG as a crutch because you cannot accurately grade is not fair to the seller. Both the seller and buyer agree to the coins grade/condition and the buyer gets a chance in hand to further evaluate the coin within an agreed return period. END OF STORY. If he didn't like it after receiving it, he should have returned it immediately. 14 days is more than long enough to figure it out and even take it around to a local friend or dealer for another opinion. The TPG's don't exist to bail people out of coin deals!

On another note, I've had this happen to me many times. I buy a coin from a dealer (locally), eventually submit it and the grade comes back lower that what we both agreed to at purchase time. I have NEVER went back to a dealer and demanded a refund based on the TPG results. However, I have mentioned it in a fair, professional manner and I have received some minor discounts on other stuff I bought.....but I never demanded anything. It is entirely my fault for not accurately assessing the grade within the return period.

I went through every post and tried to add up refund vs. no refund. Almost dead even (I ended up with 10 refunds and 9 no refunds... but my math might be off a little).

If he is a member of this forum, he should know how we all feel that he is being unreasonable and putting a dealer who was being honest in a tight spot.

i would not refund the money for the simple fact they are past the 14 day return period. if you go to any big store and buy something they stick by their return policy. so you have that time to look over the item and see if it was what you wanted. as a seller i would simply say you had over 14 days to return it. plain and simple. even if they give you a negative you can respond that buyer did not return within required time period. done and done :thumb:
