I think you are right. Checking the redbook it says .24187 oz of pure gold for the $5 half eagles and it's the exact same composition. Thanks for checking it for me.

Good, I just ordered one as well. Only 10,000 sets and I wanted the gold anyways. :thumb:

Set just wouldn't of been complete without MacArthur. The premium the Mint put on the gold wasn't way out of bounds either. I will enjoy this set for sure.

Same here - I guess that means the CC is being processed - or something.

I think so. My wife actually talked me into buying the whole set. I think she has caught the gold bug!

Nice! Mine tryed to talk me out of the gold one, seeing how I'm going to be furloughed soon. But I figure gold will hold its value. Over time, anyway.

Sorry to hear about the furlough. I think this set will at least hold it's value and probably go up.

Anybody else gonna buy? Still thinking about it? Don't like the coin designs? Anyone?

I really want the $5 gold. It's the best design IMO. That's double what I've ever payed for a coin, and it's gold. I just don't know if I should risk it thinking prices will increase as they sell out.

Im still bummed j didn't get the 25th ase set when they were relatively cheap and available.

    therocktjb Wait, what**

Mint site says the 3 coin set won't be shipped until April 5th... so that may be why your guys sets are on hold?

I ordered my 2 half dollars, and that's all I'm going to get...for now. Wife looked at me crazy when she seen the price of the Silver Dollar.

Yeah, all I wanted was the $5 gold. So I weighed the price against the set and the set won out so that's what I ordered. I'm hoping it goes up but I didn't buy it to flip it so I'll be aright if I have to hold onto it. :thumb:

Yeah I thought of that early on but the set is for proof coins only. The mint is only selling 10,000 sets and the price difference was worth the gamble to me. I am hoping with only 10,000 sets they all come out nice, but I'll settle for a gold coin error as well. :D

While it is off-topic, I would say that George Marshall was the most respected military leader of WWII. This was the opinion of many others (MacArthur notwithstanding) including Omar Bradley. Roosevelt commented that he wouldn't be able to sleep at night if Marshall was out of the country (in giving the supreme command of the invasion to Eisenhower). If any general deserved his own coin, it would be Marshall. Unfortunately, he felt that personal aggrandizement was to be shunned (unlike MacArthur to whom it was a watch word).

As far as Major General Nathanael Greene (and if you don't know who he was, look him up), had he not died at an early age, he would have been the first Secretary of Way (and had a good chance of becoming President).

I bet if Daniel Carr sees all the interest in a General Patton, maybe he will mint one. Piece of cake for him, or shall I say piece of silver for him??.
