I try not to use Coinstar - there's a bank here in CT that does the same thing for free. The best thing that I've found left in the machine was a couple of no-date Buffalo nickels that the machine apparently rejected. I took them because, hey, why not.
Only a cent, a little dark because it is 77 years old - a 1936 wheat! First coinstar find in several weeks.
I dumped $38 in pennies and there was 5 quarters, 2 nickels and a few pennies. So it helped cover the fee.
Dumped my coins and checked...found a dirty pennies (90s - it was mine) and then found a small 14k gold marvin the martian charm...gold is gold.
Proofs will reject because they have higher rims than circulation strikes - so they are a bit thicker and the machine reads them as some foreign coin. I have missed proofs in coin sorts and then had them reject in the coin machine because of that.
Two Canadian 25c coins and a handful of USA dimes and quarters - the latter then pilfered by Her Majesty aka my 8 year old daughter.
I work in retail and we have a machine. I finally found something. Canadian 5 cent 1926 Wheat and my first 1957 Dime. I am super happy.
Had to make a quick stop at the grocery today for some last minute Easter meal items. I noticed a man at the coinstar and there was a lot of coins in the reject tray. I pick up my items and he is in front of me in line. He had put all the rejects into the bag he had brought in. I ask about all the reject coins. He tells me it's a bunch of foreign stuff. I mention about how I like coins. He says I can have them but I offer to give him a couple bucks. Here is what I got for two dollars: 4.15 in canadian... already ahead and going to alberta in july .27 in us 4 tokens 1 plastic play cent 1 thai coin 9 japanese coins 1 chinese coin 61 korean coins
I noticed the same thing. I think it has more to do with the downturn economy, as that's when the Coin Star well dried up for me.
Todays find was a bit different. A voucher from the coinstar for 2 cents. It was on the machine and no one around. Took it to the desk and got 2 cents. Why someone put only 2 cents in the coinstar... don't know. No fee though.
