How 'bout buffoonery? That's where I seem to garner most of mine...... I completely agree with you BooksB4Coins and when I read a well written, educational post I always make it a point of hitting the 'like' button......
i say this in a polite way, i don't have the type of money that it would take to start a business, i don't even have a fraction of that type of money. trying to start a business with no money and no way to get that type of money would be a total waste of time and energy. i lot of the advice on here seems to be only something for the very wealthy. (pie in the sky advice) i know what coins to buy, that is not the problem. the problem is that i can't afford those types of coins in the first place and i can't find those coins at low enough prices that i could afford them. i could find a decent amount of nice coins if all that i had to do was simply choose them. but i would not have the money to buy them, that is only for the rich. when you can only spend small amounts of money on coins you have very limited choices. as far as the under $5.00 coins go, i really don't see people wanting to buy many of those coins. (please see some of the commments on this thread about how collectors only want the high value coins.) it should be noted that i had already said (days ago) that coins or anything else are only worth what people are willing to pay for them. some of the people on this thread agree with this comment, and yet, they don't seem to realize that they agree with me.
where would i get the money to buy better coins? i have bought some better coins when i could afford them. ( $100.00 or more for a coin is a lot of money for me to spend.) but i can no longer afford nicer coins, they are out of my price range.

i have never owned a car,( i don't even drive) i don't own a home, (i pay rent) and there have been many times in my life when i could not afford food. Substitute car, house, television, etc. for coins and you have the plight of most of the world, even food, unfortunately for some.[/QUOTE]
Seeing this post reminds me of the only coin I ever sold. I was possibly 10 years old and bought a 1909 VDB cent for $1.00 I was showing it to a friend and he offered me $1.50 I still regret it to this day, 57 years later!
it is not easy for the average buyer to find quality coins at wholesale prices. it is mostly just coin dealers that are able to buy coins for those prices.
i have noted that in the area where i live there are no coin auctions or any coin shows and no coin shops, i mean there is nothing going on around this area with coins.
i have failed at everything that i have ever tried to do, not just selling coins. for example, i played guitar for 17 years and i practiced and worked at playing guitar and song writing, recording music, ect. to the point of being obsessed with music for many years. i never thought about music as being a way to make money, (i have never made one cent from music.) i only played guitar to be able to express myself through music. but the thing is that i quit playing guitar because (after many years of trying) i was still not any good at it. and i was still not able to express myself with music because of this. my point is this, it does not always matter how much work and time and effort someone puts into something, they can still fail anyway. at least that is the way that things have been for me.
He means you make money by buying coins at a good price, not hying them at high retail then trying to make money. It means you can only make money by buying at wholesale and selling retail. I thought it was a pretty good answer sir, no need to get snarky. You could have just asked for clarity.
Yes you do, and I posted an example earlier. A coin I bought for $27 and sold at Auction for $460. What you don't have is a good attitude, willingness to learn, and a desire to study. All I see is excuses and a potty party. Its not easy, but it can be done. All we can do is lead you to the water, we can not make you drink.
I have an admission to make. I am in this "hobby" to make money. I may sound a little mercenary, but I got into coin collecting after buying "junk silver" about 12 years ago. I am only mildly numismatic. I like to buy coins at near melt, because then it's all upside (as long as the price of silver keeps going up). I have fallen under the spell and have a few coins I can't resist, but the most I ever paid for a coin is $150, and I had buyer's remorse.
If you have no passion for something, then yes, it will be boring. I equate this to women... you may date quite a few and not feel anything, but when you find the right one, look out.
It would make things a whole lot simpler if the OP just gave everyone ALL the facts (including photos) from the outset. It seems that we get situations like this all the time, so many here have become accustomed to jumping to conclusions. How else are we expected to extract all of the truth? Chris
