So do large dealers get a discount from the US Mint on products? Silvertown is having a special with free shipping through their ebay store for the set that is $1.5 less than what the Mint has them listed as. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-S-5pc-Silver-America-Beautiful-Quarter-Proof-Set-/300878446884
And then right above the 'terms of sale' they have this......2013 S 5pc Clad America The Beautiful Quarter Proof Set. I don't think the big boys get much if anything off, but they will sometimes make an offering like this to reel in a few extra fish. Also.....what do these boys charge for shipping?
Yes, they get a 5% discount on many products for purchases of $5,000 or more. Here's a link to the mint's bulk purchase program. http://www.usmint.gov/bulk/
I stand corrected. Heck, $250 off the $5000 tab ain't hay. Too bad lowly, loyal folks like you and me don't qualify for such offerings.
Yep, we just get higher prices in a declining pm market. Wonder if that has anything to do with the mint’s record low sales in 2012?
Do they pay the same shipping or is that discounted too. By my calculations, the discounted cost, with $4.95 shipping added to the order of 120 sets, is $39.89 per set, and a net profit of $.56 each set at the BIN price in the eBay linked store in the OP.
Not shipping from the eBay link, shipping charged to the order from the Mint. The Mint charges $4.95 to each order. Is that amount discounted in a bulk purchase from the Mint?
The bulk purchase program isn't as lucrative as it used to be. The discount used to be higher and there was a rebate at the end of the year based on your total purchases. I remember one time when Silvertowne bought half a million sets and they were selling them for $3 a piece less than the Mint with free shipping) and they were wholesaling them to other dealers. The Mint dropped the bulk program fo awhile after that. The minumum purchase used to be higher though, $50,000 instead of $5,000. Heck if your a dealer and your buying more than two Proof gold eagles or Buffalos you can qualify for the bulk discount. Actually no. The bulk shipping is 1% of the order so the minimum shipping is $50 per order.
Okay so that would alter the equation then and actually make it hard for the seller in the link from the OP to make any kind of profit then. Thanks Condor.
