I understand it is a different situation. My point was an owner can ask whatever they want for something even if it is above the fair market value. Sometimes a buyer is willing to pay that amount if they choose. I was simply stating this is something that happens with many goods. Just because these were sold as bullion doesn't mean he must ask a fair market value for them. But then again she can also walk away.

I too am very interested in the receipt.

I don't see where this coin shop is a member of any associations.
    Thanks Biged

Even if it was a member of any association, that doesn't stop the shop from engaging in unethical practices. Only thing they risk losing is their classification as a certified or approved dealer of said association.

Does the selling of "bullion" fall under the guidelines of the ANA?

Yeah, the Better Business Bureau would probably be a better shot.

Yes, please do. I'd love to hear your reasoning as to why it is so unbelievable that an unscrupulous dealer shafted an ignorant buyer.

Excuse me if somebody already brought this up but I would look into filing a small claims court case against that store owner. Sure it's a $5,000 max but hey it's better than a kick in the pants. She has the coins and she has a receipt and obviously she was ripped off. Heck sometimes an official looking letter from an attorney is good enough to scare the guy into making things right, but sometimes it doesn't do anything. Good luck!!

How is this funny . Have you ever heard of dementia ? Most older people 80 and over can deal with financial situations just fine , but there are some for whatever reason that are suffering from a diminished capacity to think like they used to . This lady paid $8000 for a few rolls of Kennedy halves . Do you really think she isn't suffering from some diminished capacity . Probably not because at 18 you know the answers to everything , you'll never grow old and you'll live happily ever after forever .

WOW! This an interesting thread. I can see where things can go south in a hurry (buying a product, item, coin, animal) without doing your homework. I guess that when you believe the best in people with the generation you grew up with and it hurts (both morally and financially) when you are taken advantage of.

OP, I hope you can find a resolution for this situation.

What are you trying to say? What is there not to believe? You questioning my trying to help someone is a little insulting.

Well sir when I find out all the truth and know I can put this shop on record, we will see who is who. You have accused me of lying. And I will ask for the Mods. to take a look at at this. If a Mod wants to PM me I will give them the facts and names involved. This will make you out to be wrong and should be treated as such!!!

Ordinarily, I might say that your logic escapes me, but this isn't the case, I don't want it!

Enochian, I would simply say if something strikes you as funny you would be better suited trying to figure out what it is and asking specific questions. Biged, I feel ya man, it gets me PO'ed to be accused of lying as well, but don't sweat it. Due to the anonyminity(sp?) of the internet, it happens. We will get this figured out, and see what we can do for your friend.
