Yeah, that title got your attention, didn't it? Well, I don't own it, yet. But I know where I can get one. My question is, tho, should I take out a small personal loan (less than 10k) to purchase this rarity or save up the money the old fashioned way, but possibly lose the opportunity to purchase?
I wouldn't put out that kind of money for an ASE. I do agree that it is a real cool coin but would never pay over 1k for any ASE but that is my opinion.
The seller is asking $3800. With less than 32,000 ASEs of that year/mint being struck, I thought it was a good price, but wasn't sure how long he would have it. This is the only one I can find in retro black also...what to do, what to do...
I personally wouldn't pay a premium...not one cent for the retro holder. If you can find it cheaper slabbed in a normal holder than I would buy the cheaper example. But, I would not take out a loan for it. If you really want it, save up for it. Perhaps the dealer would put the coin on layaway for you and you could pay for it incrementally.
The 1995 W in the other holders are just as much, if not more than, the retro black holder, so I know I'm not paying extra just for black plastic. But at the same time, I am trying to collect all of the proof ASE in the black retro (minus 2009).
This coin, as with many other so-called "keys" (S-VDB, 16-D 10C, etc, etc) are not rarities, nor are they even scarce; they are popular coins with a comparatively low mintage in a popular series, which drives up demand and therefore price. As for taking a loan out to buy as a collectible, I highly advise that you reconsider.
Santa gave me the full set of the Ngc retro Pr 69Ucam 1986-2012-S P and W set Black holder do make the ase proof a lot better!
That is not a good price, it is about $1,000 too much. The price on these coins has dropped significantly from what it used to be, and it is still dropping.
1951 Proof Great Britain Florin mintage 20,000 is listed by NGC at a value of $30.00 US. And the 1995 W silver eagle is more than that, its just supply and demand. And the demand/price is going down.
He posted that because he wants to be like the big guys. He read this in another thread, thought it was a useful fact, and used it here as his own. "There is no defined number if that is what you mean. It is just supply and demand. An example: 1951 Proof Great Britain Florin mintage 20,000 is listed by NGC at a value of $30.00 US. 1881 CC Morgan Dollar mintage 296,000 is going to cost you several hundred in the lowest grades." http://www.cointalk.com/t224485/
Anyways, so from what the feedback I've received, I have decided to not take out a loan for this 1995 W ASE in the black retro, I've decided to just purchase the 1995 P ASE instead, and, upon checking a few hours ago, the 1995 W already sold. Case closed. lol Thank you all so much for the input.
