    That's an exceptional coin, and an excellent portrait of that wild and crazy guy. One sees so many of the Caracalla denarii as they're so common - it's good to look at a big fat sestertius.

    Rudi Smits => man, that's a gorgeous coin (nice pick-up) ...

    => you should leave your mailman a case of beer for safely delivering that baby to your door-step!!

    I don't know much about Caracalla sestertii specifically, but I do know that large denominations that are well-struck and in such good condition as your coin are not a dime-a-dozen. It's no doubt a prize possession in your collection.

    Very nice Rudi. I think most of us love these big, heavy coins. What is weight and size of this baby?

    Oh, and BTW, Happy Birthday Rudi. Make sure there are no Senators waiting for your arrival.

    Ooh, birthday wishes... I used to like them, but less, when growing older :p
    The Caracalla has a neat 25.95 gr/33mm diameter ! Big & heavy :)

    Love it. As for the birthday wishes, just think of the alternative.

    I have to admit, I don't do many ancients but that one is fairly awsome.

    I'm with bq on this one. All I know about ancients is that they are old. This coin is beautiful though. It seems like much more detail than I usually see on ancients. Either way, great pickup and I am glad you love it.

    You know you've got a show-stopper when the US collectors start tossing around compliments. :)

    It is the size of this coin that has impressed me. Thanks for sharing it.

    yw. it's indeed a quite large bronze for an imperial issue of that era... almost medallic flan. nice weight too !

    This is the kind of coin that's impressive in most any collection.
