they usually see what other coins have gone for. price guides, current or passed public auctions. looked at current and completed auctions on ebay.
Boy ! A post made by somebody who has been a CT member longer than I have Sure don't see that very often. Your answer has pretty much been given already, they do it the same way we do in the US. And they make the same mistakes that US collectors make.
Maybe it's a new way to troll, look completely oblivious to the date of the person you're responding to, while the rest of us pick up the pieces. I'm still not sure yet.
It's that "Similar Threads" box at the bottom of the page, which tosses up thread suggestions regardless of age.
As for reviving old topics, see my reply here: http://www.cointalk.com/t1596-2/#post1663312 If "value" refers to how much a coin is worth, well, there are catalogs, magazines, auction results, and so on. Of course, the more popular or widespread the hobby is in a country or region, the more sources of such info are likely to be available. If the question was about the value of coin collecting ... well, yes, that hobby is a darn valuable waste of time. Christian
Nah I've known Yoda for years, he has very spirited passion for his coins and hobby. And I don't think he's ever been on a forum like this and doesn't look at the op date.
It was meant to be more of a joke than it came off as, not trying to accuse someone I don't know of something like that. Sorry Yoda!!!
