Thank you for your opinion. It obvious that your intellect is far superior than that of the ordinary consumer and you obviously have never worked customer service. If you had, you would realize that yes ..sad but true, the common man is dumb and ignorant as you pointed out. If they weren't, Phishing, phone scams and those "you've won a free cruise, just call this number and give me your credit card to pay for shipping your tickets" postcards that we all get in the mail would not be so profitable.

We can find evidence on this very forum of people spending hard eraned money on coins that they don't know what they or how much they are worth. How many threads start out ..I spent $100 bucks on this coin ..how do you think I did? What do you think it grades?. Would you consider these folks ignorant and dumb? Did he deserve what he got..whether its a good deal or got taken to the cleaners? Not everyone with cash or something to sell has superior intellect and comparison shops.

Fortunately, I don't mind your personal attack, utterly pitiful, I think you called me. Most often when facts don't support an argument the predicted tendency is to go personal, I understand. Helping the ignorant and pitiful is unfortunately a job that hundreds of thousands of workers in the United States do for a living every day so I am in good company. I can't agree with you that they deserve what they get. What they deserve is patience and education so that those with superior intellect don't keep taking advantage of them.

As I mentioned before, I have no aspirations of becoming a dealer and contrary to the words that you put in my mouth, not all dealers are scum but as the economy stagnates, it gets harder to make that sale and negotiating becomes more antagonisitic when faced with ones own survival. It's only human nature. It happens in all lines of work ..not just coin dealers.

I thank you for your opinion. I think this is the first time I've seen the word "utterly" here at cointalk. Bravo.

    andrew289,

You use terms like "what it's worth" and "what they deserve to get". That is the crux of the matter here. Even educated numismatic people argue over value so how can you educate them? The education is out there if they want it. Most chose not to get it. You certainly do not go around wearing a Tee Shirt stating "I sell 8oz Kraft Mac and Cheese for 99 cents". Do those people not deserve your attention from getting "scammed" at Publix at $2.99 a box. I mean they could have just gone to the Dollar store and bought it there for $1.50.

Again, wear your shirt where ever you like in public but not at a store that competes with and pay's rent, utilities and advertising for the same product. That is "utterly" :p rude IMO and most posting here it seems.

yeah man you worked hard to give those folks less than they deserve for their coins, you tell em! Sadly though I agree with you, a beatdown would be in order for whoever decided to do that where I come from.....and let it be said that not all coin owners are unfair with their prices, the place I go to will usually buy a 100 coin back from me for 90 or so since I go in there alot....they are pretty fair

I used the word "utterly" in my final paper in honors English class back in high school.

Honors English teacher gave me a C, citing use of a made up word.

We called in the librarian, who to my ultimate surprise, agreed with the teacher.

In the end, good old Webster had the final say :)

So sometimes, even the educatOR ends up being educatED.

Seems like it fits the current conversation.

EDIT: grade was changed to an A, needless to say ;)

    To your utter surprise :D

PS what a nasty teach to give you a C for just one questionable word.

My advisor wouldn't let me use "utterly" in my dissertation, but he was right -- it wasn't appropriate for the context.

Today, I get to watch my 6th-grader correcting his teachers' spelling on worksheets. :(

    Duke,

You are absolutely right. You can't save them all and I don't want to. To answer your question, no, the folks over paying for Mac & Cheese don't deserve my attention. Caveat Emptor.

We are just not going to see eye to eye on this and that's fine. I have talked to far to many that have been hurt by the current economy and who are just looking to put food on the table by selling everything they own. A lot of what they sell, they don't know what's its worth. They turn to professionals for advice and don't always get the truth. Personally, talking with them and hearing their stories simply tears at my heart. It happens so so often, it's beyond comprehension.

So I will continue to wear my shirts with pride, yes I have more than one ...lol. I had a print run off 25 made. You all can call me rude and pitiful and all the names you want. I fully realize that I am posting in the lion's den and I'm not among friends, that's ok. At some point you have to pull back the veil and talk about the dark side of the coin business. It's a business. For some it's a hobby, but for others it's how they put food on the table and will do whatever it takes to provide for their families. Just because you pay rent and utilities doesn't give you the right to be predatory, in my opinion anyway, on the contrary, it's a breach of trust that I find inexcusable.

This dead horse has left the stable. Enjoy the rest of the week, I have laundry to do....lol.

The child is father to the man.........in between, there's Google 'spell check'........sad.......especially since 'teachers' should set an example. Your 6th-grader rocks Jeff. :)
