...you order up yourself a nice coin and anxiously await the mailman, only to have the dealer email you a week later and inform you that the coin was sold before you ordered it, and he just forgot to remove it from his inventory? :heated:

Yup, mine was a vcoins order.

I had a Vcoins order from a world, not an ancient, dealer that refunded the money but sent it the regular way and it took the payPoo fee of 3%. I was chaffed. I won't buy from her again. I had a sinking suspicion that the coin was not really previously sold - it had just been listed on Vcoins - but that she figured rightly that she put the wrong price on the coin and wanted to not sell it as a bargain. Now I am a reasonable person and know people make mistakes, and I can eat the honesty. But I will regurgitate a slippery less than honest story everytime.

I have a suspicion something similar happened to me, SM. My coin was priced much lower than it should have been, and I'm guessing the dealer didn't want to take a loss.

Yup doesn't surprise me. It does seem when I close the deal on an ancient coin of value that I am getting at a steal, they say A) the coin is sold in the case of Blank Vcoins store a Eumenes of Pergamum Tet I wanted. B) An Ardos from Blank Blank Numis which all are now $499 instead of $199. C) A Scythian Tetradrachm from Blank who started messing around and raise the price as we negotiated for it, then said it was rare. As well as several others that I can't think of. I don't even want to go into the sellers who don't respond to emails. - until you buy something. Another thing of Vcoins is sellers who say yea we can make a deal and then charge full price and say well-I will give you a better deal next time. I now deal with only a couple of guys on Numismall. Who answer questions and are experts in the coins they sell.
I must say Ariana Coins and Agean are great sellers. Many others I would rather not do business with anymore.

Of course, vcoins isn't one homogenous entity any more than eBay is. Everything depends on the individual dealers. I've had more success finding good bargains on eBay lately - waiting patiently for those 99-cent no-reserve auctions that end on weekday evenings.

Lately my best buys have been privet purchases from older collectors, and some trades from fellow members and friends. I will be making an album of my postables.

Ive had a couple of coins I bought and end up getting an emails staying it was sold and wasnt marked as sold. It has pis*ed me off on occasion but I move on.

Once I found a coin I need and it was marked as someone whos extremely common but the photo was of a scarcer person. I emailed asking what was what and the photo was right. I asked if I could get it at the common emperors price and it was "ho hummed" and then finally given to me at the common emperor price. My punishment though was a 3 week wait for it to ship & nagging even though the VC seller was u.s. based :/

I'm sorry to read all these horror stories. I have purchased from dealers on both Vcoins and Numismall without problem. However, I have run into some problems with sellers on Ebay. But even so, for the most part my dealings even on Ebay have been good.

I've ran into problems with dealers on both Ebay and VCoins. One of them was that he said that the latest VCoins update marked them as unsold. I think he was lying and sold them elsewhere and forgot to remove it there.

Vcoins is supposed to be above the fray, but I have dealt with Vcoins dealers for years and can share some very positive stories, and well that negative one. I know of a couple of dealers on there that I wouldn't buy anything from because all of their coins appear to be cleaned, one in Europe cleans them very harshly like with a wire scrub brush. I cannot imagine why they are still on Vcoins but I guess if nobody complains...

Yah, I agree that's spine-breakin' => I had one of my infamous PAN coins in the cross-hairs and then *poof* ... wha? ... where, wha?

Yup, just like pot-smoke at a beach fire => Gone with the Wind!!

However, I know exactly what happens => nobody gives a poop about what's already been sold => they're all about the stuff that's still on the rack

Am currently having a minor issue with a vcoins purchase I made. Purchased several, got all but one, seller stuck in a note offering to refund or give store credit, email communication hasn’t been the swiftest to resolve the issue….but if I get my money back without having to open a complaint, I’ll be ok with it. Don't know if I purchase form this person again or not, depends on how big of a pain in the hole this turns out to be.
