US Mint raises prices as PM's fall? Will this create a sleeper or two?

With this increase, what coins would you think have a chance at becoming key's?

My choice will have to be the 2012 W SE, latest total sales were 197,711. The Mint just raised the price to $53.95!
I just dont see many more moving at that price with Silver under $30.00. But there is still a chance I could be wrong if they sell them until 2014!

    Wucha think?

I don't see it on the Mint website.

The 2012 W Silver Eagle just sold out. It went to backorder status on Friday and was removed from the mint's website this morning.

However, you can still get it as part of the Uncirculated Dollar Set. If they did not make many of those sets, this will end up being the 4th lowest mintage Silver Eagle.

It's funny how the burnished eagles are so unpopular.

If the Mint had stated that only 200,000 of them would be made this year, and called it something special (e.g. an anniversary edition eagle) collectors probably would have rushed to buy them.

Just picked this up - my first product from the mint in a while. Figure it would be a good coin - the W eagle that is.

If sales stopped as of last week's report:

2012-W Proof 864,545 (still available in Ltd Edition Proof Set) not one of the lowest mintage ASEs
2012-S Proof 280,376 (still available in Coin & Currency set) 6th lowest mintage ASE
2012-S Reverse Proof 224,981 (sold out) 5th lowest mintage
2012-W Uncirculated 217,482 (still available in Unc Dollar Coin Set) 4th lowest

I think the TPGs are to blame for that because of the their practice of slabbing the bullion coins as (W) or (S) based on the mint code from the monster box that they came in. There are probably thousands of silver eagle collectors out there who mistakenly believe they have this coin because they bought a slab with the W in parentheses.

Ah, the ever elusive S-less 'S' and W-less 'W'. What a joke.......If it don't have the mint mark it don't fly with me.....

It's also probably because of how the the Mint refers to the burnished versions as Uncirculated Silver Eagles.

1st off not trying to stir up the flies!

Why is it that you ASE collectors complain about the mint raising the price of its products compared to spot price, but once its in your hands its worth more than spot?
