I know the funny looks people give me when I try to spend $2 bills, half dollars, ike dollars (only did this once), and even the presidential dollars.. But, considering that the ASE has a face value of $1 and it is legal tender.. have you ever tried to spend it and have the teller refuse to accept it?
when i use to work in a bank we had a business customer(owned a mini mart) bring in 4 or 5 that he had taken as payment for some items. one of my fellow tellers showed them to me after she had taken a deposit while i was at lunch. needless to say when she asked me if i wanted them i said YES!!!! they even had some nice toning on them
i sure did. this was when silver was about $7-8/OZ i just sold them about 2 months ago. so i would say i did pretty well
That guy has a few good videos. He tries to sell a 1 oz AGE for face but no one wants to buy it because they don't believe him that it is a real American coin.
A few years back a man in New York tried to sell brand new $100 bills for $20 each. He only sold one....true story. It was on NBC Nightly News.
I've used 1 oz AGE's to buy things on several different occasions, always worked for me. But the question of face value never came up, the coins were accepted based on bullion value. I was happy, they were happy.
We had an older lady spend one at our store one time. The cashier had no clue what it was and took it at face value. 1986. This was when silver was around $40 too.
All of my tellers know i collect coins and when i went into work one day one of the tellers came up to me and said you collect the big dollars right? (referring to the Eisenhower dollars) and i said yup i do, and she brought over a ASE someone brought it for face value
