Well let's keep things international with another pickup from last week, this is an Egyptian 10 pound note, with YAM (Yet Another Mosque) on the front - the mosques are starting to look alike, just sayin' there Egypt - and the Pyramids and some cool little rotary hieroglyphs and Khafra on the back, he built the second largest pyramid and possibly the Sphinx. This is quite a large note as most Egyptian notes are...

Those are very pricey and above book value. I ended up picking up a 53 grade. Thank you though.

One more Greek before I hit you with more of my star pickups - this is a 1918 Greek one Drachma fractional, very hard to come by, actually designed and printed by Greeks themselves. On the front is Pericles, and on the back is a hippocamp and person, which also appears on the 1940's-1950's 5000 Drachma note, so I did some research (recognizing a hippocamp is proof positive the Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual first edition was truly educational material) and found it is a representation of Thetis bringing her son Achilles his armor - a little Greek mythology for you there, and now I understand the back of BOTH notes.

Let's go back to stargazing shall we? This is one of my last batch that I got all on the same day last week, it's a nice rare 1934-B $20 star from Boston. It's good to pick up the B series as they just aren't all that readily available - of my 60 star notes, this makes the second B I have. Cost me more than I tend to pay for these but you pay for rarity, and it's a decent example to boot.

TT - I am *really* liking those Costa Rica notes - can you tell me ballpark what the general acquisition cost is of those in similar condition? I could go hunt it on eBay but I feel lazy today...

Let me toss out one last star, more are on the way to be sure but here's the last of my star batch. She may not look like much kid but she's got it where it counts, she'll make .5 past light speed... or in this case, a 1934-D St. Louis $20 wide back star, a very short run, this will be the third in T&P if they ever notice it.

MEC: There was a seller from San Jose who listed a few good remainders that caught my eye. They were ~ $50 each. I think it was fair and hope they meet my expectations in hand... I have a lot of "Favorites" but the train is up there in beauty with any note out there IMO.

Nice Star pickup BTW... im jelous...

The American Bank Note Company has made some nice looking notes for several Central American and Caribbean country's. Cuba and the Dominican Republic are also country's with some classy looking notes.

I started a thread asking condition/value opinions. (http://www.cointalk.com/t223965/) Maybe this will help boost its visibility with the right crowd.... Enjoy!

Awesome Chief there Funkee, I know that set you back but a note that nice is worth it...

SnV - I think that's a fine grade star note there, definitely uncommon to be sure. Pop shows 7 known, auction from a low of $60 on eBay a couple years to a high of $160 for it's close trinary cousin on Heritage here http://currency.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=141129&lotNo=31369 - I think the value is in between. You'll get closer to each of those values depending on where you sell it... can't tell from your moniker if you were in Marine Recon or suffer from fecal urgency...

Anyways, on to MY notes... and today's new pickup is... let me see... is two Two TWO NOTES IN ONE! I figure I should put both of these notes up and bookend their mate - I have acquired a 1928B DGS, not a spectacular example but do you ever argue with face? Nope... in the middle is the tranny twenty transitional green seal I posted a few days ago, and the other new pickup is a 1928B LGS, so this should show the color transition nicely for these seals. And that LGS sure is a looker, you know I love the limes...

Awesome example of the transition in a single series. Are there plate numbers that document where the color transitions occurred?

My newest comes from a friend of a friend at work.
The executive assistant to the General Manager asked if I would stop by her office to evaluate a note her friend had inherited from her father. I told them the note was in fine to very fine condition. They then asked what do you think it is worth. I said, it depends on whether it's a FR.16, FR.16a, FR.17, or FR.17a. I sent a scan to a friend, John Spinelli, (owner CGA) and he determined it was a FR.16. The owner of the note said she was offered a thousand dollars for the note, and I told her to jump on that with both feet. She called me 3 days later and said the offer had been withdrawn, and asked if I would like to purchase the note. I offered $225 and she said OK........so here it is.

I wasn't looking for one of these, so I didn't offer as much as she might have realized at auction.......and was surprised a little when she said OK.

I totally agree -- great looking locomotive! I'm pretty sure I've seen this and the mining vignette on a stock or bond somewhere. If I can scout out companion pieces I'll post them.

I purchased these from a co-worker of mine for $200 (I made the offer and she accepted). Her father's estate was cleared out and she brought in some coins and these two bills. She told me she knew I liked old currency and wanted the bills to find a good home. I wasn't really interested in the coins she bought in (a bunch of junk silver, bent Indian Head cents, a hole-punched silver 3¢, and a very worn 2¢ piece) but I didn't have any Nationals in my paper collection until today.

Steve - reach into her other pocket and see what you can steal out of that one! Real nice single there... and not a bad offer really when you come down to it, $224 more than she had before... a grand would be a major over pay no wonder that offer evaporated.

Here's a new large pickup of my own, the price was extremely right on this note too, Burke Glass is rare for Dallas and I got this for a relative song. I now have every signature for Dallas large fives, this was the last one. I'll upgrade later sure but the Glass notes aren't common at all so I'll fill that empty spot with this example for now...
