Here's a selection of William Drown tokens. His firm was a prolific manufacturer of umbrellas, parasols, and sunshades during the middle part of the 19th century. Philadelphia itself was the umbrella manufacturing capital of the United States during the 19th century.

ok here goes I have roughly 8 medals/Argentina shooting metals(of which I have added to my world coin collection of "coins with insects)., and 1 enlongated spider cent. I apologized in advance for my poor photography and lighting. I have to wait until payday to get a better brighter lighting system for taking my coin pics. I found this little picture easel to hold the coins while I take pics of them. it works great for holding them. now I just need better focusing. my girlfriend's camera is limited. her friends camera takes incredible close up pics. I will eventually hire her to photograph all my coins and medals. here's the pics:

1st up is are 2 NASA medals that were giving to my father from 1 of his golf buddies and dad gave 2 of them to me. the story goes that 25% of the metal used in making these 2 medals was flown in space. I find this incredible interesting and that I now own 2 of them. any idea as to their value ? they have a lot of sentimental value for me now since my father gave them to me. here's their pics and side/edge views:

ok next is a Daniel Carr Defiant finger tower dollar. I hope this does not offend anyone. if it does I will delete it. I bought it in Vegas at the Circus-Circus coin show about 3 years ago for $35.00 I have seen them on Ebay slabbed NGC for $150.00. 1 of 80 made. made of brass. very cool and funny. Daniel Carr is the designer of the New York statehood quarter and many other great pattern coins.

 

next up.... Jesus and hands medal made of sterling silver. I think it's from Italy/vatican City ? I really like the hands and that it's made of silver. sorry the reverse focus was crap. this medal has been put with my "coins with hands" world coin collection.

 

next up... the elongated spider cent. was put in with my "coins with insects" coin collection.

it says "Happy halloween" at the top of it.

 

ok next...these are Argentina shooting medals. I have added them to my "coins with insects" coin collection. enjoy:

first 2 medals on this post are made of silver, the bottom is copper with silver plate and the other medals are made of pot metal or something cheap metal.

 

Here's a couple of tokens I got awhile back. Actually I may have posted the Ostrich Token already but I don't know for certain. The Ostich one is one of my favorites cause I'm thinking it's a California Token and it's dated 1915. It's just a guess but it's highly likely that this company gave a few of these Tokens out at the Panama Pacific International Exposition in SF that year. Even if they didn't and I'm wrong, the Token is still dated with Ostriches and I think that's fairly rare either way. :thumb: The NewFoundland (Rutherford) looks polished but I needed it just the same, I couldn't beat the price and they are selling for crazy nowadays. :thumb: Just threw in the shooting medal to fill space.

 

Nice medals. Please handle them carefully & preserve them for future generations.

Here's a selection of William Richardson tokens. Like William Drown (posted above) his firm was also prolific manufacturer of umbrellas, parasols, and sunshades during the middle part of the 19th century. Being umbrella capital of the U.S., Philadelphia served as the hometown for a generous number of manufacturers.

I have ordered these by emission year, rather than Miller number. Like the Drown specimens above, it has taken considerable time to find and attain each of these individual varieties for my cabinet.















Other umbrella manufacturers existed in Philadelphia. I'll post more examples later.

It's probably obvious that I am a fan of umbrella, parasol, and sunshade tokens.

Here's a couple more I got recently got off of ebay, not the best place to pick up Tokens as far as price goes, but they always seem to have something listed I just gotta have. The Admiral Dewey was in good enough grade that I just had to have it! Plus the Dewey's are starting to command bigger prices now so if you see one you like, you may wanna grab it. Some local coin shops in my area sell tokens for really decent prices so if you haven't checked out your LCS, next time your there, take a minute to browse. The elephant was another one I had to have, actually I upgraded as I already have one but it's nowhere as nice as this one. A couple more to follow. :thumb:

 

The reverse of Paddy's WWI medal is very nice. Fret's Borax token is great too.
