Great coins! You may only have two in the collection so far, but it's by no means less impressive. I think you're off to a fantastic start with those and hope to see your progression with it here.

AH, I was wondering if someone would ask! An excellent question that I still don't know the answer to. I think I may go for a first half of the 20th century Proof type set. Nothing in stone but kinda thinking: Indian Head Cent, Barber dime maybe Mercury though, Washington Quarter, but here is the problem,,, you probably guessed it... Proof Dollar, first half of 20th century = Morgan = big $$$$ sooo I kind am at a road block there. However, I am not planning on making my next purchase(s) the coins that would be part of this set. Im looking to make my next purchase a Draped Bust Half, but you never know where your going to end up once you start searching.

Awesome that you get your kids involved in a great hobby, and I totally understand the reasoning behind your collecting style and I say more power to you! Raw coins are great, I do buy raw coins but they are generally coins less than $25 but I buy them because there are some really awesome coins that are not and probably never will be slabbed just because it wouldnt be cost effective. I love being able to physically hold a coin (properly by the rim of course) and viewing a raw coin... a beautifully toned raw coin... directly without a plastic slab to get in the way... ah there is nothing else like it. You get to see the coin totally unimpeded as it should be. To be honest I dont have a goal per se with my collection. I view coins as some view artwork such as paintings or drawings. They are things of beauty that I loose myself in when I view them. It would be nice to pass on what I collect to a family member who could appreciate them for their beauty and possibly keep growing the collection. Ultimately though if I end up having to sell a coin from my collection I would of course like to at least get my money back out of it.

Forget about playing the game, he went right straight to the bonus round. Phenomenal job on your acquisitions. Now time to go onto PCGS' site and put a proof registry together.

Can't include NGC coins in the PCGS registry. The NGC registry accepts both services and, IMO, is easier to use.

My vote on this start to an incredible collection would be to build that 20th century type set with representatives of the best silver coin designs of the period. Thus, I would recommend a MS66 Peace Dollar vs the Morgan. Who cares if it isn't a proof? It will have plenty of powerful coincident luster to match the proofs at that grade level and the design is a bit more contemporary to the other coins he already possesses (plus, Morgans are boring  ). And, rather than the suggested masculine Barber quarter, go with the majestic Type I Standing Liberty Quarter. Again, the design is more compelling. Add in the Mercury Dime and one has 5 coins that have tremendous artistic appeal. I would leave it at these 5 coins and then dive into a new journey on 19th century US type!

Totally dropped from my mind that they are in NGC slabs, whoops. Thanks for correcting me on that one Catbert.

I must say that this is a really brilliant idea and one that I had not considered or even thought of... going after the best early 20th century SILVER COIN DESIGNS..I like it... I like it a lot actually. Also the point about going after a uber gem Peace in MS as opposed to a proof Morgan is a overall wise thought. It would keep the collection to coins produced Only in the 20th Century. Ditto as to the Standing Liberty idea. These suggestions are great as they would neatly wrap and put a bow on the collection's overall concept. Im liking the idea more and more as I contemplate it.... much thanks Catbert!
