What's throwing you off are the two daggers that resemble jalapeños. It is from the Emirate previously known as Ajman (now part of the UAE).

I used to feel that way about world coins. If I was working on a set, I didn't want to post pictures and get someone else interested until I was done with it so no one would be inspired to go on eBay and outbid me. Too many times I'd see someone post a coin and then someone else say "I'll have to get one of those."

It's not smart to post auctions you're bidding on. I learned that the hard way.

OTOH, to paraphrase some cheesy pseudo philosopher, "there always is another coin". Every time I get all mad about losing a coin, another comes along just as pretty.

So, even though I am a firm believer in buying what you can today, since you will look back in 10 years and wish you had bought more, there is no sense getting grumpy about a lost opportunity. Another one will soon come.

Btw, I was kidding about more ancient collectors. I would welcome more, of course. If more people collected world and ancient coins in this country, versus all of the other hobbies available, I think we would have a more educated, literate, and history minded populace. Maybe a more peaceful one as well. how can you get mad at people in another country who love to talk about coins too? :)

Well I collect both and I post both ancients and modern world coins. I'm still not the type to start threads, though sometimes I get the urge to. And besides there is a newest foreigh acquisition thread. :D So I guess a lot of people post their coins over their instead of starting a new one.

I will be posting tons of world coin pics of my topical/themed "coins with hands" "coins with insects"(my personal favorite) "coins with certain stars" and "coins with small coins as the coins design on the coin" and interesting .....and my own thoughts on that is that nobody else collects them , plus a ton of MISC. coins. I am an avid world coin collector. we are not dead. i know i have many modern coins to show you all. i have some old ones too. I look forward to showing them off to you all. I am still experimenting with my girlfriend cheap digital camera. i will get better at it with trial and error. thanks for your patience on that.

Yeah, I enjoy the theme threads as well. I believe there is already a coins with stars thread buried somewhere.

I believe I benefit from more people being interested in the coins I collect (mostly ancients). Yes, my activities in the last 16 years have probably caused some prices to go up by getting others interested in my hobby but those new people patronize the dealers that go out of their way to stock coins of the general types that I want. They buy enough of the ones I don't want that the dealer feels like he can afford to risk getting a new bunch of coins which will include a few more coins that I want. Also, I'm getting to an age where I hope some of you younger collectors will want to own some of my coins and will buy them from my heirs who so far have shown no interest in continuing my hobby wherever I leave it off. I don't intend to make them rich but perhaps my coins will bring them more than melt value which could be what they are worth if no one but me had any interest in them. It is a fact that there are fewer and fewer potential collectors since collecting hobbies are not as 'cool' as they were when I was a kid. We have a few young numismatists here but more people come to collecting ancient coins when they are middle aged (30 is the new definition of over the hill, I'm told) or even newly retired. When I was a kid, most academically capable kids took Latin in high school, read the Odyssey and knew who Julius Caesar was. Today more dodge foreign language requirements (and consider a BS degree superior to a BA), read Harry Potter and eat Caesar salad. Anything I can do to make just one more person share my interests in the past makes me feel a little better about how I have spent my energy (and a couple of dollars along the way).

Yo dawg, I heard you like coins with small coins as the coins design on the coin, so here are some coins you can check out while looking at this coin...

While collecting foreign coins sometimes feels like you're the only one who likes that sort of thing, it is great for finding bargains since many collectors and even dealers look at them all as basically bargain bin fodder or silver scrap.

No, we didn't get bored. I recently decided to expand my collection in include more Central and South American countries. I am currently adding circulated silver coins to the collection. I am waiting on a shipment of 12 which I have invested the large sum of $96. That won't even buy me 2 of of my Silver Crowns. I like to post to stimulate involvement so that others will share what they have. Yes, I see different coins and say, I want one of those! Then I go out and find one. I just check my most recent post "Trip to Central and South America". 59 views and 2 post by members. So, I am doing my part. If you want to see more posting in World Coins, then participate! We dedicated collectors know who the others are and enjoy the comments. BTW, I am going all the way down to Argentina, come join me on the trip.

BTW, for all you Ancient Mariners, there is a sell feature on this board that you can use to get rid of duplicates.

Sold all my duplicate world coins on clist about 2 years ago. 1800 coins for $200. Even had them sorted and cataloged by country. Bingo! instant collection. The gut was ecstatic I still do business with him. He collects world paper money and I sold him a lot of my duplicates, including some confederate notes. We kinda became friends. Now i seek out specific coins that interest me.

What is this "duplicates" of which you speak? I mean, I have many examples of the same coin, but I label them as example 1a, 1b, 1c..... I have no duplicates. :) For friends, though, I am willing to part with some. If you ever are looking for something specific, let me know and I can see if I have a 1g I can part with.
