A few months ago, 90 percent of the posts on this "World & Ancient Coins" section of the site were about relatively modern world coins. Now it's about 95 percent ancients. I'm not saying that's good or bad, but it's strange how things changed like that. Did the world collectors all get bored?
I don't see less of the modern world guys - just more of the ancient collectors. And it seems the ancient collectors are a very talkative bunch. I know I am, and I make no apologies for it. I come here to talk coins, so start talking!!
Thanks! I hope nobody is as interested in it as I am there. I really don't think that it's possible....
You don't have to worry about me. All I collect are Ancient Greek and Roman coins. I spend way too much as it is w/o branching out to anything else.
Admittedly I am mostly a "responder" in Coin Talk, not so much a topic starter. So I usually check the "New Posts" and/or "Recent Threads" lists, and if there is anything that I find interesting, I'll read it, and maybe reply. Not being that interested in ancients does not translate to being bored though. Christian
Maybe not "bored," but for awhile certain of the avid world coin collecting posters were starting topics every day, and they have dried up. I don't start new topics as much as I used to, mostly because I recently got married and don't have as much time for scanning coins and buying new stuff, but I still like to comment, and since ancients are not something I want to get involved with right now, I don't have much to weigh in on.
I'm a modern world coin collector! I'm relatively new, so I still don't start threads, but I try to respond to posts. I am hoping to start posting here soon once I have my collector re-organized!
I think that there has been a decrease in all new thread activity in the Coin Chat & Ancient/World sections. There has also been a recent (obvious) increase in ancient participation. Here are five modern World coin photos that I have posted in just the last week. A couple were posted in new threads & a few were posted in older recurring threads. Go ahead. Match the coin with its country of origin: Latvia Russia Poland Mexico Canada
Use it as a learning opportunity. I read many world coin threads I wasn't terribly interested in, but learned. Learning about any coin cannot be bad, right? I just wish all of the other ancient collectors would just shut up already. What, you want to create more collectors and increase the already brutal competition for these coins?
I don't like competition for the product, but I certainly enjoy the interaction with others who have similar interests. Until I found web sites dedicated to the discussion of Ancient coins, I thought I was all alone. There is absolutely no one in my immediate circle of family and friends who have any interest in my coins. Trust me, this will change. I've been married 45 years this month. I was 17 and my wife 15 when we married. We're from West Virginia. She's still my cousin too.
Uh, let's see...a chicken, jalapenos with flags sticking out of them and somebody can't write their numbers. I'm gonna go with Mexico.
Crossed swords, arabic dating, I was going with Saudi Arabia, but with the 1979 date and the dove I am guessing Egypt.
