OK, ok. I know I said I was not buying for a while, but, like many of you, I couldn't help myself this past weekend and bought a few coins. I really am laying off for a while so I am going to post one coin every few days just to give myself that fix I need. So here is the first I purchased over the weekend.

L POMPONIUS MOLO ROMAN REPUBLIC AR Denarius
    GENS POMPONIA
OBV: Laureate head of Apollo right; L POMPON MOLO around
REV: Numa Pompilius standing right before altar preparing to sacrifice a goat which is being held by a youth; NVMA POMPIL in exergue
    Struck at Rome, 97BC
    Crawford 334/1; Pomponia 6

Very, VERY nice! That reverse design is quite intriguing. You and Stevex may get me interested in Roman Rep yet - it wouldn't take much convincing actually.

Showing a Priestly sacrifice... Cool story too!

    Also, the history :D :D :D

Definitely a nice coin! Thanks to you, I found a few with decent prices but can't take advantage of it right now, unfortunately.

I'm not sure it's good etiquette to ask someone what they paid for a coin, but maybe Bing is OK with that.

I really need to stop typing multiple responses and emails in a single word document...

That was not supposed to be posted here, but into an email to a friend about a rare video game...

    Sorry!

I don't have a problem with anyone asking. I know we are all curious about the costs of coins. If I decide I would rather not say, I won't respond. In this case, I paid $75 incl. shipping. This is an excellent price for this particular coin imho. If you check it out on acsearch or vcoins, in this condition it will sell for much more.

You've obviously got a great source for your Roman Republics. All the ones that have caught my eye recently are in the 200-300 range, but I haven't made any offers. I usually get good responses with reasonable offers.

I had to look up "lituus" from your descriptions.

The seller originally wanted $100 each for two different RR coins. I offered $150 for the two which was accepted. It never hurts to ask for a discount. I might add that I often do business with this particular seller so that may be a factor.

I just checked again on Vcoins using just L POMPONIUS in the search bar. There are five of these for sale with the cheapest being $150 and the most expensive (and ridiculous) being $2500.

This coin arrived today and it is much better in hand. The relief is amazing. These are my images and, although the side view doesn't show it very well, the portrait has a very good relief.

Two different coins depending on the pics, huh? I thought it was a great coin from the seller's image, but yours really captures the character and vivacity of that piece!

Thanks Jerry. I dunno. If we both keep going after the same coins, we could be bidding against each other. Not a good thing. Anyway, have a good night
