Who is your favorite Roman Emperor/ Imperator?

Also, why are they your favorite?

    My Favorite is Julius Caesar.

He was a brilliant Engineer, Businessman, Politician and General, all at once.
    People loved him!

    He was also very honorable.
He refused to take a Triumph due to the defeat of any fellow Romans. This included the defeat of Pompey in the Civil Wars.

He was Amazing, and as such is my favorite Roman Emperor/ Imperator!

    What's Yours?

I've got to go with Octavian/Augustus. Though not as famous as his uncle Julius, he was the one who really cemented the transition from Republic to Empire.

BTW I'm eyeballing a really fantastic Augustus coin, perhaps I'll get to post it here soon. ;)

Gallienus has always been my favorite. Ive read several books on him and that time frame of rome.

I would have to say Trajan. Ruled over the height of the empire, and adopted Hadrian. Next would be Julian, a brilliant leader trying to save the past.

Can't wait to see it... Hope you win! :D

Hadrian is my second favorite emperor... It may have been due to his wall that my ancestors went to Britain!

Octavian/Augustus is my third most favorite...

Very similiar to the one in this listing.

But the one I'm looking at is in better condition. BTW, is it just me, or are many of the Ancients on eBay, especially the BIN(Buy it Now) coins, way overpriced?

Most BIN prices are too high no matter what the product. I make a lot of offers, sometimes very low-ball offers, and I've only been declined a few times.

I'm gonna have to go with Trajan as well .. he tried to restore "normalcy" after all of the damage caused by the Goon-Squad, including everyone from Tiberius to Domitian which included some of the worst emperors rome ever saw ...

I get that all BIN prices are high. But it seems that with ancients the sellers are often "swinging for the fences" high on their coins. In my experience, with US coins sellers will price their BINs at retail or maybe 10-20% over retail. With ancients it seems like the sellers are trying to get 100% over what a similiar coin just sold for in an auction.

I agree that the obo option is a nice alternative. NO harm done in making an offer. Worst the seller can do is say no.

Alright, I'm done hijacking your thread Windchild...back to favorite Emperors!:D

I contact the seller even if they haven't included an obo option - I understand that it costs an extra few cents for that feature. I've been successful a few times as well. As far as ancients go, I don't really know. I'm brand new to the hobby, so I have nothing to compare the current prices to. I just figure it never hurts to ask for a discount.

Claudius! The reluctant emperor. Stammerer turned statesman. Plus, he was one of the last rulers (besides Trajan) to actually add to the size of the Empire.

Also, he has a long neck, just like me!

    Someone got my fourth favorite...

Can anyone guess who my fifth favorite is?

Note: Only my top 5 are decided.
