Very possible. Concur with Idhair that you've got to see them up close. There's a lot of dipped franklins around.

IIRC, bid on a generic "BU" set is somewhere around $600 (give/take), but other than the claim of "uncirculated" and poor images, you really do not know what the seller has. The 35 coins would have a silver value of about $360 right now, and while it's likely that they are worth somewhat more than this, without seeing the coins or having quality individual photographs, there is not much more I can tell you; the conditions of a few dates can make quite the difference.

 

That's a decent deal I imagine. I was able to buy a BU set for melt last year and I assigned a value of it close to $800 or so (somewhat conservative in my opinion). Best idea would be to scout a local pawn shop for about a $600 gun since he's open for trades and sell that to him and save $200 bucks. Simply email and ask what he's looking for and go buy that caliber/type or something similar for $550-$650

Although in my opinion you should put together your own sent of franklins. They are cheap and easy to complete and you can make sure you get what you want.

For example you can buy anacs graded franklins up to ms-65 for under $35 a coin relatively easily. Crack em out the slabs and put in a dansco. Also the reason to target anacs, no one cares much about cracking their slabs and you can score decent coins cheap since folks look down on anacs. That's what im doing for my Washington quarter set and so for so good. Been buying mostly ms 64s and ms 65s for under $25 in several different years.

 

Sorry the new gun laws in my state of Maryland as of 3/1/13 prevents me from selling any firearms to people out of state. Only to gun dealers in my state

I own 3 Beretta's 9mm. I own two 357's mags and four police special .38cal.

Thank God they are letting my keep my son's U.S. Navy approve high limit magazines he gave me.

No more magazine holding more than 10 bullets in the state of Maryland can be bought or sold. Records of owning such magazines and assault rifles must be handy in case audit. Or guns, ammo and all disaproved gun items will be taken and possible state charges could be brought.

Scary, I have owned guns for 40 years and hunted for 38 years. It's a shame my rights as a safe gun owner is now side tracked because of a few idiots out there that leave guns free for their kids to kill others.

What's next people. Stand up for your rights. One day the criminals will enter your home and mame and kill one of your family members. It makes me sick.

Wow that is crazy. Well then my advice is to assemble your own set of franklins lol. That's a lot to deal with concerning your weapons and your right as a US citizens. Gun laws are ridiculous they just keep more guns out of the good guys hands. A criminal doesn't care about committing a crime, what's going to stop him from having a gun especially now knowing what the law abiding citizens are limited to? It's a joke.

But back to the Frankie's. you will be much more satisfied with putting your own set together. If you've got ~$800 or so to drop on that set you can easily buy the new album and at least 20 MS-60 or higher grade halves. Then just fill in the rest.

On topic: Probably would have to see it in hand...especially check those key dates ('49s) and potential FBL/high grades. I would read up online for dates that are tough to find in FBL or higher condition and look especially for those as well.

 

I suggested that he trade a gun since the ad asked for that. You know go buy a $500 gun to trade for $850 worth of coins. Just a thought to save him some money but he just pointed out they have new laws in effect which not only make that impossible to do, but it seems illegal also.

Any who, I love the franklin series. I've got 2 albums done and a 3rd started. My fourth set will be an NGC graded set including all the proofs, which is also relatively inexpensive to assemble. At least for a complete set like that.

Seller says, some proofs. For that kind of price I would expect ALL the Franklin proofs to be in the set, not just some.

The first 4 proofs will cost you over $500 in any decent condition, and most likely the first 2 alone will set you back that much.

But for that price there should more than just "some proofs".

Well what do you reasonably expect to pay for an AU/BU set of franklins? Better yet what would you try and sell your set for? Melt on 33 halves is somewhere around $400. Would you take melt for your set?

i do own a couple of guns, and up here in maine, people are going absolutely bananas over there guns and there clips. 2 of my high capacity rounds that i bought for 25 dollars each around black friday of last year, are now going for 80 dollars and up in the Uncles henry book for the northeast new england, so maybe that will be a good idea
