I just don't understand the logic of the buyers in these auctions. Some people just make me scratch my head and wonder. http://www.ebay.com/itm/One-Box-of-...85?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item53f3447969 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-SEALED-BO...50?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item1e76e0c6e6 http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-Half-Dol...17?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item2a2930fa01
Maybe they dont have banks in their area that have boxes of coins. I knew a guy who was disabled and couldnt get around. He would buy boxes of coins on ebay and search them.
I understand your logic, but so many have been sold and well over face. I just think there are so many naive people out there that will buy anything and not realize how much they are over paying.
Sometimes a person on eBay will have friends that will 'buy' a few of their product just to make others think that it is something others want. There may actually be none sold, just a group of people making it look like some were sold.
selling those rolls of half dollars for a dollar profit is not worth all the negative and nuetral feedback. Geesh, thats a feedback killer.
$100 nickels for $130 (free S&H)...doesn't seem so bad if you need $100 worth of nickels and can't get them any other way. That's a 22 lbs package that "might" fit into a $12.95 medium flat rate box. It has to be labelled, carried to the PO...and that doesn't include all the effort it takes to find the box, carry it home, and pay all the eBay fees. $130 seems like a bargain when you think about it....assuming you need $100 worth of nickels.
I don't understand people like you either. What does it matter what people pay for their coins? I'm betting you have something that I would never pay that price for such as a expensive computer or name brand shoes that can be bought for less somewhere else if you look hard enough. But what does it matter? They wanted it, they used their money on it because they like it. That is how commerce works. I sometimes wish our hobby would not focus so much on how much it cost. Do you think that the antique market or sports card market or Art market looks at things like this. Imagine this: Well honey I do like that Monet but he probably only has a canvas mat that we could pick up for $10 and the paints are cheap enough at Michaels for $100 but that frame has got some nice wood that we can get directly from the mill for $200 so I just can't see why people are paying more then $350 for that painting. Crazy sometimes isn't it...
I don't see the point of it. You might pull 1 maybe 2 wars and maybe a buffalo. Its jut not worth it in the slightest IMO.
People may not have banks in there area as well, but what happens when they have $100 in searched Nickels? Need to get to a bank to cash them in.
I agree, I doubt anyone would buy a box of nickels like this with hopes of making any great finds. They may, however, buy a box as a PM investment given that the metal value of a nickel (according to Coinflation) is 4.95¢...and nickels may become obsolete in the next ten (10) years. (The sound you hear is Rocky rushing to his computer to order a box before they're all gone)
Sorry you feel that way. I don't care what people spend their money on either, but I just find it odd that someone would spend that kind of money on something that is really only worth face besides maybe a couple decent pulls. I am not so much focusing on cost like you said, because I agree so many people are so worried about what someone else paid for something, but this isn't some rare coin, or nicely toned coin or a slabbed coin it is a box of 99.99 common Nickels. I am not going to start an argument you are free to express your opinion as I did. I just found it a bit humorous just like some jokes are funny to some people and some are not. When it comes to something like this, people can be so naive. They buy someone like this for a high premium then many of them complain that they got ripped off and leave these buyers negative feedback. That is why I posted this because a few bought a box and then left negative feedback like they thought they were buying rolls of silver and that is where I find the humor.
It's for the same reason I'm able to sell Ikes, Sacs, Presidential dollars, clad Kennedy halves, $2 bills, etc., etc. for double (or more) face at the local flea market, when the buyer could just walk to the bank (two blocks away) and get them dollar for dollar.
Btw (a bit off topic), what do you suppose happened to the few million rolls of 2009 P/D nickels that were made. I've seen like twelve (12) of them on eBay. I have yet to find one in my change. I have satin finished ones in my US Mint sets, but they're not the same.
