Well, Jerry, now you've gone and done it! You finally got a half way decent coin. Good portrait. Nice coin altogether. Since your wife thinks you pay too much for your coins, you could just tell her they are mine and I've lent them to you. However, you have to send them to me for safekeeping. That way she won't get suspicious. Edited note: I've never seen oxen high step before,
Steve, Caracalla was a bad boy, this bad boy is awesome, very, very nice..the oxen send it over the top..:thumb::thumb:
The Moon (Luna) driving a Biga (type of Chariot) pulled by Oxen... Much like a farming scene, possibly based on the story of Luna (I think) and the Shepard
I got a new coin yesterday too, also a Caracalla. Remember the one I mentioned about the great patina? Sorry for the horrid photo. Its a sestertius. Man, patina is hard to photograph. This is from my cell phone, but in hand this coin is a dark emerald green, but turned in light reflects the green in a lighter shade, almost as if coming through a jewel. I had to wait a month to see the seller again, and was having dreams of this coin. Well, now its mine, even though I don't collect Romans.
Thanks for all of the coin compliments, comrades!! Bing => your high-steppin' oxen comment made me shoot coffee through my snout!! (thanks for that!!) dougsmit => it was nice getting a coin-nod from you (I was beginning to get a complex)
Wow! Also my favorite of your coins from the "Steve's ancient coin #__ outta #_5_ series" thus far. I love the detail on the portrait and the reverse is phenomenal. Well done.
I considered pointing out that the coin was horridly defective in that the halo around Luna's head is missing on part of the circle but I decided I had been too hard on poor old Steve and should let him slide by with this coin even though it is only a 99 out of 100. Seriously, there are so few absolutely perfect coins that we often need several specimens to show every feature in the best light. Compare: http://www.acsearch.info/record.html?id=385341 Suggestion: Domna has a Luna type also so you can get one with full halo. Of course, if you want, I'd be happy to trade my dog (compared to yours) of a full halo Luna in bull cart. I liked my coin before I saw yours but now I'm the one getting a complex.
I just noticed that, technically speaking, we have different coins. Steve's has a bust seen from the front while mine is from the rear. The difference is where the shoulde falls compared to the middle of the head. Only recently have we seen some listings pointing out this difference and each seems about equally rare judging only from the acsearch listings.
I love your coin "and" your coin insight ... => both of our oxen-biga coins rock!!! ... I like being able to compare coins with you (that in itself, is good enough for me) Cheers
Nice looking coin. Good obverse and reverse, the condition looks really nice too. And its got a biga.
