    chrsmat71 I LIKE TURTLES!

here' s my latest pick up, and my oldest coin to have a date on in, the 17 for 1617. anyone know what the 24 mean? i though it may be the 24th year of sigmund iii rule but that didn't jive.

As far as I know, the "17" is the short version of the year (as you mentioned), and the "24" suggests a face value of 1/24 taler. Except they were later worth less: Not three kreuzer or groschen/groszy but 1 1/2 ...

Dalek Silver Proof Medal - Royal Mint

My Last Doctor Who Dalek medal came today. This looks the same as the cupro-nickel medal, but this is the .925 sterling proof edition with a mintage of only 5,000. Like I said in the last post, the Royal Mint would not sell/ship these to America so they are hard to get. Looking on eBay, I can’t find one for under $100 USD. Very expensive for 12 grams of silver.

Here’s a picture I took of the mint box (bad photography – I know):

The Dalek character is arguably more famous than the Doctor Who Character. These machines with evil genetic creatures piloting them have terrorized the galaxy for ages, both in the future and in the past.

Of course that depends on one's viewpoint. From the Darlock's perspective it is the mangy biological life entities which are over running the galaxy. I think I should rent a Darlock outfit for Haloween and terrorize our neighborhood.[IMG]

I went to central america in December and January, and I got a ton of stuff, I got a Honduras set, all of which were from the 2000s and none of which were in circulation anymore. the currency collapsed.

Here for your viewing pleasure is a 10 pfennig notgeld from the city of Trier. The coin has no date, but I imagine (could be wrong) that it circulated around 1919-1920.

    IMG1154-horz.jpg

What attracted me to this coin was the religious figure holding the key, and the huge die crack. It almost looks like this coin was struck very close to before the die actually broke. Imagine the pressure on a die striking iron coins.
