here' s my latest pick up, and my oldest coin to have a date on in, the 17 for 1617. anyone know what the 24 mean? i though it may be the 24th year of sigmund iii rule but that didn't jive. sigmund iii polish-lithuaian commonwealth 1617
As far as I know, the "17" is the short version of the year (as you mentioned), and the "24" suggests a face value of 1/24 taler. Except they were later worth less: Not three kreuzer or groschen/groszy but 1 1/2 ... Christian
Canada 25c 1942 Found amongst a group of 400 coins I bought pretty much unseen. Quite nice grade and oil on water toning.
Dalek Silver Proof Medal - Royal Mint My Last Doctor Who Dalek medal came today. This looks the same as the cupro-nickel medal, but this is the .925 sterling proof edition with a mintage of only 5,000. Like I said in the last post, the Royal Mint would not sell/ship these to America so they are hard to get. Looking on eBay, I can’t find one for under $100 USD. Very expensive for 12 grams of silver. Here’s a picture I took of the mint box (bad photography – I know): The Dalek character is arguably more famous than the Doctor Who Character. These machines with evil genetic creatures piloting them have terrorized the galaxy for ages, both in the future and in the past.
marbury518 => I love Canadian quarters (they're my main Canadian target ... along with Canadian paper-money) Great lookin' coin (love the toning!!) :thumb:
This is what I did with my tax refund  Specification: 16.66 g, .900 fine gold, .482 troy oz AGW.
Of course that depends on one's viewpoint. From the Darlock's perspective it is the mangy biological life entities which are over running the galaxy. I think I should rent a Darlock outfit for Haloween and terrorize our neighborhood.
I haven't posted many Canadian coins on this site, so I hope that I can post one of my favourites ... here is my precious => 1893 Canadian 25 Cent => IC AU55 => * awesome * yah, I've yet to meet a dude with a higher-appraised version ... however, I would "love" to see that coin!!! Coins rock!! :u*meY:
1926 Five Cent Straits Settlement King George King and Emperor of India a few nice die clashes and in great shape for a 87 year old coin.
I went to central america in December and January, and I got a ton of stuff, I got a Honduras set, all of which were from the 2000s and none of which were in circulation anymore. the currency collapsed.
Not really new but was going through some old coins to put into airitites and came across this. 1968 Israel 10 Lirot Commemorative issue. This hockey puck is 37mm and 26 grams.
Here for your viewing pleasure is a 10 pfennig notgeld from the city of Trier. The coin has no date, but I imagine (could be wrong) that it circulated around 1919-1920. What attracted me to this coin was the religious figure holding the key, and the huge die crack. It almost looks like this coin was struck very close to before the die actually broke. Imagine the pressure on a die striking iron coins.
