my LCS has some silver casino coins, they are saying they were previously wrapped in a copper band are known coins for containing silver but not sure what they should sell of, a couple different ones, any input on whether i should buy them would be nice, i think they want 4 over spot for the, and i think they said .925
If they look like the picture attached, they are usually .60% silver with the brass ring around them. They should go nowhere near spot since they are not a full ounce of silver. You can find tons of them on Ebay and they usually go for around $20-24 depending on how rare some might be or the image depicted on it. But you have to be careful as in most recent years some casinos silver plate them or had less silver in them.
Incorrect. They are .999. However, yes, they vary in weight - somewhere between .5 and a bit higher, .6 maybe, ozt. They're called silver strikes. They're won in slot machine and such, most have a $10 face, and most sell for a discount. There are collectors of these, actually. So check out http://www.silverstrikers.com/ before selling. And there are other denominations, something like $2 up to $200.
Lon is correct. They are .999 FS. All Silver Strikes produced through 2005 contain .6 oz. of silver and all that have been produced beginning with 2006 contain .5 oz. of silver. Chris
Since he said the USED to be wrapped in a copper band, I would assume what his LCS has are piece where the outer ring has either been cut away or the silver center knocked out for scrapping.
