=> and because I love showing 'em off and I know that you guys love seeing new coins, I'm gonna display them individually (one coin per day) ...

Ummm, I've decided to show them from "oldest" to "newest" ... I hope that you think that they're as cool as I do!!

Circa 100-30 BC
Diameter: 25 mm
Weight: 9.30 grams
Obverse: Aegis with winged facing gorgoneion in center
Reverse: Aphrodite riding galloping bull right; monogram to upper left
Reference: SNG France 1195 var. (owl to right); SNG Levante 870 var. (same)
Other: 12h, VF, dark green patina

Wow. That's an exceptional coin. Those gorgoneion/aphrodite on bull types are not a dime a dozen, and yours is the nicest example I've come across in my web surfing.

More historical info (as I have more time), this time on the "Aegis"

The Aegis was the shield of Zeus, normally given to his daughter Athena.
It held the Medusa's head in the center, causing terror to all those who looked at it.

Note: rather creepy shield... Medusa's head in the center
