how to tell if somthing is gold plated?

    two years ago for cristmas i got a gold colored 1945 pennny, its slightly magnetic. i was wondering if it was gold plated?

    I have seen a Morgan dollar plated with some gold colored metal that caused it to stick to a magnet, but only a very strong rare earth magnet.

    I suspect yours has been plated with something similiar.

    i think it is the bezel the coin is seated in that is ferrous.
