But watch out: there are more than a few cry-babies here who'll whine to the mods that you're "insulting" them "personally" for that simple & common-sense opinion.
Then biased mods are apt to threaten or ban you, pretextually. (Don't bother respond by PM, either - that's another ploy they use.)

That's how pathetic 'clique forums' typically go, anyway. Pretty transparent, no?

 

The reason you may get infracted because of this statement is because you stated it as though it was a fact instead of your opinion.

I, personally, have no respect for someone that has no respect for me or others by calling a decision we make foolish without knowing the reasons behind that decision. And even knowing the reasons, you can still only have an opinion.

 

I didn't realize I needed to put opinion or fact on my posts to state something from my perspective. Or on something that I spelled out, with facts before I posted that last bit.

 

Simply write or say "in my opinion". How hard is that? All I ask is that you have and show some respect. Your way of collecting isn't the only way or the right way of collecting.

Instead (ironically?) you're putting words in his mouth to blame him for an imaginary "attack" (which is slander and a personal attack, in itself.) OF COURSE nearly everything you/I/anyone writes here is just "opinion."

But I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want anyone to hold you to your standard (of qualifying everything you write thusly, "in my opinion" "I think" "I suppose") either - it's unworkable, absurd. To say nothing of a petty and whingy demand/expectation etc. for reasonable debate.

 

Your post would have been fine without those two sentences, and this problem never would have arisen.

 

You are the one making my opinion a problem, don't like it, that's on you. I don't have to word my opinion in any way for your viewing pleasure. Rather if you disagree say so, but don't attack me for posting my thoughts in a manner that you don't like. You don't like that I think only a fool will spend more for early released coins, thats your apinion.

 

That's fine, tell us that's what you believe, don't state it as fact.

 

I patently take a posters 'post' as opinion so there is no need for them to insert 'IMO' or 'IMHO'. I sometimes bristle to what is said (written) at times but always remark to myself, 'it's their opinion'. If I post a contrary point of view and am labeled a fool for doing so, that's where I take exception........

I think the biggest issue is the price that the mint is charging for these that is pushing people away. The cost from the mint is above the cost of the ASE, and the ASE has far more silver content. The designs themselves I'm sure play a factor as well, but for me personally, the price is my biggest turn-off for these. A few years down the road, when the price plummets is when I'll pick them up.

 

Most commems are indeed a gamble if you're just interested in return. If I like a design, I buy it. I personally don't like any of the silver or gold ones this year, so my wallet thanks me. I have smartened up a little... slowly shifting from proofs to uncs. The kicker for me is that my LCS gets them, and then I can cherrypick a nice one, instead of the QC and return headaches with the mint. I think that will be the same for the west point 2-coin ASE set as well. I prefer paying a little more for the opportunity to view in hand before buying.

Whether you contend it is a statement of fact or opinion, it's the name-calling that is inappropriate. Can you state facts or opinions without using words like "fool" and "sucker"? Why not? Note that it's far less offensive to state that an act seems foolish than to call a person a fool.

My opinion is that someone who's sensitive about being "attacked" would refrain from needless and puerile provocations. But you probably won't like my opinion either.

 

Are you serious right now? Just like the last person to drudge up older comments, you try to come in and do the same thing? Unless I specifically say hey, you're a fool, I can and will continue to say what I think, especially seeing as that phrase you're saying I shouldn't say is a widely used one, on this site and all over the world no less. Grow some thicker skin, and if you don't like my personal opinion, that's on you not on me. Everyone has thief own and that's their god given right. You can think I'm a fool or a sucker because I'll pay $10 over value for something I want, does it bother me? No, will I care if you or anyone else thinks I'm a fool or a sucker for it? No, I won't because I have mt own opinion on what I collect.
