As far as I know, those pieces were not government issues, and the "4 africa" face value is a fictitious one. (Here is a similar one "from" Burkina Faso.) This "Development Institute" referred to on the map side was initiated by Ivàn Florine who AFAIK is a Belgian coin dealer. But the designs of that series were interesting, and if this was a malaria fundraiser or at least "awareness raiser", fine with me. :)

thanks for that info Christian. I have another Cuban mosquito coin:
the mosquito is about 5mm to the left of his face and just right of the palm trees.

For some reason I get an "Invalid Attachment specified" alert when I click that link, or the one in #65. Now #64 shows just fine here. :)

here is a Italy 10 centesimi coin I have. I am doing the date run from 1919-1937 set. still saving up for the 1919 date very pricey: a gorgeous design in my opinion. i shot for UNC's only, but have many duplicates in lesser grades.

The images in #71 (the Malá Fatra coin from Slovakia) and #73 (the SMOM coin) can be viewed just fine here. Except they are a little ... spooky, especially the second one. :D

I can see them now. This link may help, but it didn't really help me http://www.cointalk.com/t8566/. All I do is hit the photo icon (when you hover your mouse over it it will say "Insert Image", click it and a box appears with 2 tabs. One tab will say "From Computer" the other tab will say "From URL". Click the one that says "From Computer". Sometimes it will take a minute, but will eventually look like this:
    Pic 1.JPG
When you see this hit "Select files" button. If you're using a PC the normal looking window comes up like this:
    Pic2.JPG
Find the coin picture and hit open. This window closes and you will see this:
    Pic3.JPG
Then Hit the center button that says "Upload files", and your photo will upload appear in the post you are creating. Once the picture is uploaded, you can douple click it and this window will pop up:
    Pic 4.JPG

This lets you play with the image's size and poition. - No one ever told me about this, and I used to post tiny pictures all the time! - Use the "Preview Post" button to see how it's gonna look, before you hit the 'Submit "Reply" button.

I always upload directly from my computer, and have never used a 3rd party image hosting service. Hope this helps. Sorry CT for getting :eek:ff-topic:, but I really want to see these bug coins. - There are other ways to use to get you pictures on CT Spirityoda. I just find this way works best for me. :thumb:

that Slovakia coin was the coin that totally got me interested in "coins with insects", Order of Malta coin is quite scarce...i think the spooky party is that it says "world food day" are they eating grasshoppers or do they have a problem with the grasshoppers eating their food ? the other strange thing is that this guy on the coin is appears to be dancing with the grasshopper. any info on that malta coin would be greatly appreciated from anyone. thanks in advance, Craig.

I'm pretty sure it's the second option - with the grasshoppers (especially the swarms of locusts) being a major problem for farmers. Depicting the two at roughly the same size is ... interesting. ;)

Note that the coin was not issued by (the country of) Malta but by the SMOM (Order of Malta). That order lost pretty much all its territory in the late 18th century but is still considered sovereign. Except that the country is now limited to the Palazzo di Malta in Rome. Now you may say that such a "country" does not need any coins. Agreed. But do countries or territories such as Niue, Cook Islands or Palau need all the collector coins they issue? :D Just consider the SMOM pieces to be fundraisers, sort of ...

(Side note: There are quite a few more or less shady organizations that use similar names, and sell "coins". Caveat emptor.)

You can edit/modify any of your posts within a relatively short period of time - 24 hours or so, not sure. In that period of time, you cannot remove it, but you could replace the entire text with a mere dot (period) for example.

After that, it just stays there. If you posted something terribly embarrassing or offensive, ask the moderators to remove it. In all other cases, let it just sit and collect dust so to say. ;)
