Sure there are modern losers – I try to avoid those – many have done quite well.

Let’s not mix apples & oranges. Sponge Bob coins/medals have nothing to do with the US coin market in the US, which is 90% of the coin market in the US.

What I find encouraging in your post is, even though you're negative on these pucks, you did say you do like the Volcanoes. Shows some of you bears may come around.

I don't know about anyone else, but I get it. You are not enamored of the pucks, nay, you actually hate them, but enough is enough. Give it up. IMO, you're vehement and constant putting them down is getting tiring.

Not sure I understand you. As the HuffingtonPost accurately reported "The SpongeBob coins were the brainchild of a Peregrine unit called PFG Precious Metals Inc and an Auckland, New Zealand-based minting firm, which began manufacturing the novelty items for the Peregrine unit last year to sell to customers. PFG Precious Metals also sold gold and platinum coins."

PFG Precious Metals was an Illinois corporation. The "New Zealand coin" product went straight to their Cedar Falls, Iowa HQ for sale to their (American) customers. You might say AGEs and ASEs (with Australian planchets from the Perth Mint) don't count fully as "American"? Or if you mean ASEs and AGEs are basically bullion, I agree: "not really coins" (coined money, for circulation.) But pucks are, likewise.

Also, while most posts on "US Coins" are about US Mint products/issues, not all are so narrowly-defined. For example:

That's false. I could never "hate" Silver. But I certainly don't have to tow the party-line (whatever you imagine that to be) on any coin/medal/bullion round.

To me, it's basically a bullion issue, by the numbers - sorry if reading that irks you.

The rule is, it has to be legal tender in the US for it to be collectable as a US coin. Since US Coins are 90% of the coin market in the US, a nominal value is assigned to bullion to make it more collectable.

We get it. To you they're just bullion. Why do you seem so determined to convince everyone else to come around to your way of thinking?

    25 cents? lol Figleaf, anyone?

It's a United States Mint Bullion product. A partial replica, in fact. I don't care about that, I'm just wondering about it.

And the US Mint website seems to contradict you, describing ASEs exclusively as legal tender:
"Above all, as legal tender, they're the only silver bullion coins whose weight and purity are guaranteed by the United States Government."

I'm going to read this literally, from the ATB 5ozt page : "It has the "P" mint mark for the United States Mint at Philadelphia."
    http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/atb/?action=sbcInvestors

Not MADE in Philly? Is Bron's outfit also making the planchets for the pucks? Who else is? Where is that Ag sourced? Do you know?

(Cursory reading of Public Law 110-456 Sec 201: nothing about any 'requirement to mint at US facilities' nor 'in US silver' etc. etc.)

I'm with you, Bull. I'll be glad when the ****ing (aka peeing) contest is over and we can get back to the original topic.

Does anybody remember the days when collecting was fun and people actually bought coins because they enjoyed them, without much thought about future worth?

How much fun is that really? Collecting everything with a profit motive is just unfulfilling to me. I like to collect coins for the fun of it and save my investing for the financial markets, as those are easier for me to understand and am more comfortable anticipating their future behavior.

Yeah, 25 cents on the pucks is low, but I think the decision was made to be true to the original quarter design. What ever value is put on it, it's legal tender in the US.

It has to be legal tender in the US, regardless of where the planchets or coins were made.

I started collecting in the 60’s and no, I don’t remember anyone not being concerned about future value, unless it was a nominal purchase.

Sure, I wouldn’t advise relying on your coin collection for retirement – more traditional investment should be used. But as far as hobbies go, I like the profits coin collecting provides to not only pay for coins, but other hobbies as well, that provide no profits.

That's right about buying for value vs love of coin.

When I bought my three P-Pucks I had no intent of selling them, still don't, except for duplicates. The duplicates help pay for the keepers.

Getting back on subject, after seeing this post about the Acadia I went and looked at some real photos of the Denali P-Puck. It looked pretty good so I ordered 1 from the Mint. I like the matte finish lots better than the proof-like finish.

    Here's a pic of a P-Denali.

The contest will never end until you guys kick juan blanco to the curb. He gets on here and thrashes coins he don't like. That's like the number one rule you're not supposed to break on this forum yet he does it repeatedly. He's not gonna stop as long as y'all remain civil to him. Tell the moderators, I know nobody wants to do that but the dudes gotta go!! Just ignore the dude!

So, which 2012-p puck do you think will be the lowest? I'm betting on Chaco. Chaco was the lowest for the S-Mint rolls and based on current sales, it's poised to be the lowest for the pucks.

I thought the rule was trash the coin but never the person.

I am not sticking up for Juan, just saying as long as he doesn't insult the peerson i think he is within the rules.

Well, he called me a "warmonger" for having served in the Navy, and then acted all innocent. I am not battling with him or anyone else anymore. Too many coins to see, and places to go! :)

Oh he insults plenty of people by making them look like idiots for buying whatever coin is being discussed. I won't say anymore but trust me, the man is gonna continue pushing peoples buttons on this forum until somebody does something about it.
